Programs/Facilities - Samantha Malloy Ms. Malloy reported: Mackle Park: Spray Park working after repaired thanks to IT Manager, Jose Duran Relay for Life - February 20, 2020 Movies in Park/Parents Night Out/Spooktacular Halloween Event Fields damaged from burrowing owls 2020 Community Events: Mr. Rubenstein advised traveling Vietnam Wall arriving at Veterans' Community Park February 22, 2020 Car Show/Craft Show/Seafood Festival dates posted on City calendar Rock Concerts (2) - January 11th band confirmed, April 4th waiting for second band to confirm. Rotary Club - researching fundraising event City of Marco Island Florida Page 1 Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Minutes - Final August 20, 2019 Committee Chair Portu suggested Parks & Recreation have social media intern for facebook/instagram/snapchat. Director Smith replied, City utilizes interns for summer months only helping at front desk/Camp Mackle, will explore social media options, volunteering only. b. August 2019 City Council Report ID 19-439 August 2019 City Council Report Attachments: August 2019 CC Report.pdf Chair Portu stated August 19, 2019 City Council approved scope of services for Veterans' Community Park consultant for approximately $595,000. Kimley-Horn will provide design, permitting, management and construction services in accordance with the Veterans' Community Park Master Plan approved by City Council in March. c. Racquet Center Update Ms Malloy reported City Manager reviewing restroom renovations, contractor working on architectural plans next month. (7) PUBLIC COMMENT (TIME CERTAIN 4:00 P.M.) - None (8) PRESENTATIONS- None (9) OLD BUSINESS a. Food Spice Garden Chair Portu emailed City Council Chair Brechnitz for approval to start project. Director Smith's concern is with iguana population with fruit/vegetable trees. He recommended holding off until iguana situation under control. Landscaping code will be addressed for more Florida Friendly Landscape. Chair Portu and Vice Chair Richards will research food plants not attracted to iguanas by contacting University of Florida. (10) NEW BUSINESS - None (11) COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Vice Chair Richards inquired if alcohol/smoking allowed in dog park. Ms. Malloy will address with Police Department. Chair Portu waiting for 5 year park plan. Director Smith stated Strategic Plan completed, moving on to Comprehensive Plan.
