(8) STAFF COMMUNICATIONS
ID 22-2224 April 2022 Staff Report
Samantha Malloy, Park, Culture and Recreation Manager, asked if anyone has any questions.
Vice-Chair Richards asked when the spray park would be operational and/or repaired.
Martha Montgomery, Facilities Supervisor, stated that nine vendors have been contacted. Our vendor is
performing weekly maintenance. The caps have been removed to pressurize the system to find the leaks.
No leaks were found, and the caps have been put back. Staff is working with the vendor to get the spray
park running. Once the system is running again, the Collier County Health Department must be contacted
to sign off on it. The Fleet and Facilities department is getting a proposal for a new pump system.
Vice-Chair Richards asked how long it will be closed.
Miguel Carballo, Fleet and Facilities Manager reported that the system was tested last week but the
system does not have adequate pressure. The goal is to get it running but it will not be at full capacity.
Fleets and Facilities is working with a company who specializes in replacement pumps. There is a rough
estimate of $80,000 just to replace the pump equipment.
Member Kuhn asked how old the equipment is.
Mr. Carballo replied 15 years old.
Chair Portu asked if this $80,000 will be included in the next budgetary request.
Mr. Carballo stated that there are two options for the next budgetary request. One is to budget for a
professional design, specifications, and recommendations or to replace the entire pump system.
Chair Portu asked what the cost would be for a conceptual design for a Splash Park.
Mr. Carballo replied about $20,000.
Vice -Chair Richards asked if Fleets and Facilities is going to re-sign the agreement with Interlocal with
the Collier County School District for the Softball Fields.
Samantha Malloy, Park, Culture and Recreation Manager and Miguel Carballo, Fleet and Facilities
Manager are working together to provide all the information needed for City Council.
Member Kuhn asked if the scan cards for the Racquet Center could be redesigned to a scan card to put
on key chains.
Mrs. Malloy replied that it could be investigated, but it would probably be an additional cost and the cost
would be passed to the member.
Mrs. Malloy stated that April 20, 2022, will be the last day of the Farmer’s Market. Parks and Recreation
has already begun accepting registrations for summer camp. Parks and Recreation are working on field
trips. Some of the field trips would be Sun-N-Fun Lagoon, Naples Zoo, Rookery Bay and possibly a
Dolphin Tour.

Chair Portu answered that it was on the City Council Agenda.
Chair Portu asked if the Veterans Community Park project is on schedule.

most recent updates. The Sculptural Play Art equipment has some delivery delays.
Chair Portu asked about the Ping Pong tables at Veterans Community Park.
Samantha Malloy, Park, Culture and Recreation Manager replied the Ping Pong tables are moving forward
with using a different material than the original material requested.

a. FY23 Budget Season
Member Portu suggested an outdoor piano, possibly at Jane Hittler Park, Landscape
Leyland Way vacant lots, and trees in parks.
Member Kuhn and Member Siegel mentioned the upkeep at Calusa Park. Another
recommendation would be more trees and benches.
Vice-Chair Richards suggested an outside restroom at the dog parks.
Member Shagott asked about the hydration station proposed last year at Leigh Plummer.
Martha Montgomery, Facilities Supervisor said the cost of a hydration station (last year’s
cost) was $5500.00 just for the tower. This does not include the cost for installation.
Member Conner mentioned having a billboard Marque sign to inform community members
of events, a dig park at Leigh Plummer, Splash Park, and benches around Mackle Park,
