In attendance:
Councilman Perry, Councilman Ray, Councilman Carter,
Mayor Pro-Tem McIntyre, and Councilman Chapman,
Mayor Howard
Prayer: Councilman Perry
Mayor Howard called meeting to order.
Discussion
Mayor Howard asked for Motion to approve minutes. Mayor Pro-Tem
McIntyre made the Motion to approve minutes from 6-5-18 Council
Meeting. Councilman Carter seconded the Motion. The Motion passed
unanimously
Mayor Howard asked for a Motion to make Bryan Smith, who is interim
Chief for the Margaret Police Department, into the permanent Chief.
Mayor Pro-Tem McIntyre made the Motion to make Bryan Smith
permanent Chief for Margaret Police Department. The Motion was
seconded by Councilman Ray. Motion passed unanimously.
Chief Bryan Smith gave his report. Chief Smith stated that “stolen
property” is down, “accidents” is about the same, with the exception of
having one accident with a fatality. Chief Smith asked the Council if they
see anything that needs improvement to let him know. Mayor Howard told
the Council that the Police Department has come a long way. Chief Smith
would like to replace car 3 because it has over 100,000 miles. Chief Smith
found one on government surplus for $36,818.00 with the light package.
If Brasher does the light package it will be $34,102.00. Chief Smith
suggested that car 3 be used for a reserve vehicle for part-time officers.
Chief Smith also told that the pay increase for the officers will help with
the job search for a full-time police officer. Councilman Perry made the
Motion to purchase another police vehicle and let Brasher do the light
package. Councilman Ray seconded the Motion. Motion passed
unanimously.
Councilman Perry made a Motion to amended the Flea Market /Yard Sale
Ordinance 2018-0501 to charge business license fee of $110.00 to owner of
flea market and $3.00/day per table for booth renters. Mayor Pro-Tem
McIntyre seconded the Motion. Motion passed with Councilman Ray
abstaining.
Mayor Pro-Tem McIntyre made a motion to rescind the yard sale part of
Flea Market/Yard Sale Ordinance. Motion was seconded by Councilman
Chapman. Motion did not pass. Flea Market/Yard Sale Ordinance 2018-
0501 stands as passed last meeting.
Mayor Howard asked if any person in attendance at the Council Meeting
Have anything to say? Jerome Lowery asked about the Town Limits Sign
on County Road 12.
Councilman Chapman didn’t have anything.
Councilman Perry inquired about whether or not the City had a sign
ordinance. The Brookhaven Subdivision is having problems with signs.
Teja Peeples City Clerk will look into the sign ordinance and get back with
Councilman Perry.
Councilman Perry will present and discuss business license, and permits at
the next Council Meeting.
Mayor Pro-Tem McIntyre made the Motion to reschedule the next Council
Meeting to July 10, 2018 because of the July 4 th Holiday. Councilman
Perry seconded the Motion. The Motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Pro-Tem McIntyre made the Motion to adjourn. Councilman Perry
seconded the Motion. Motion passed unanimously.
