Present were Commission Members: Chairman Kays, Commissioner Vital, Commissioner Welch, Commissioner Gallagher, Commissioner Cabral and Commissioner Doherty via zoom . Also attending Recreation Director Charles Thebado. Approval of minutes 11-17-21 On a motion duly made by Commissioner Vital and seconded by Commissioner Cabral, it was unanimously: VOTED: To accept the 11-17-21 minutes. Communication from Jamie Durant, Marlborough Girls Softball: Commissioner Cabral excused himself from the agenda item: Marlborough Girls Softball Marlborough Girls Softball is asking for permission to do work on Baldelli field to keep it from flooding. They will like to regrade the infield and remove the hump and possibly help with the drainage. A lot of water pours off the pavement on the third base side and they would like to address the issue as soon as possible. They reached out to few athletic design companies and received quotes for the project. They are willing to pay for the project and asking the permission of the Recreation Commission. Mr. Thebado mentioned that he spoke to Mr. White and he has no problem with the project to be by Marlborough Girls Softball League. On a motion duly made by Commissioner Doherty and second by Commissioner Vital, it was unanimously: VOTED: To allow Marlborough Girls Softball to proceed with the Baldelli project. Parks Report …..Communication from Chris White, Ceneral Foreman Parks, Forestry &Cemeteries: • We are shutting down & winterized both splash pads. • We started winter maintenance of equipment. • Utilized early order pricing for spring fertilizer program • We completed all playground inspection and orders parts requiring replacement .  • Meeting with youth groups. • Parks will remove snow from Turf fields starting February 14th. We are in the process of servicing turf maintenance equipment for mowing season. • Supply chain issues continue to be an issue with regard to both equipment and materials. We are expecting shortages and long wait times for both. Recreation Report………………………. Charles Thebado, Director: Mr. Thebado gave the following Recreation Department updates: • Home for the Holidays went very well. Approximately 400-500 residents attended the event. • Sudbury Recreation Department program collaboration started the beginning of this year, early January. • We are holding Lifeguard Training classes at Wayside for February and April Vacation weeks. Joe and I, met with head lifeguards last month to address staff shortage, additional supplies needed, and returning staff. • We Posted on Assabet Vocational School website local employment section advertising summer positions available. • I met with Mayor Vigeant on building a Dek Hockey rink with the possibility of rink refrigeration for the winter months. In conversations with Tom DiPersio of the DPW to ascertain additional information for cost estimates, staffing and equipment that will be needed. We also discussed possible locations. • Winter program schedule is up and online. We have approximately 45-50 recreational opportunities for residents. • Return of Project Winter Adventure. Information is online and flyers were distributed through virtual backpack in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. • I am Working with Priscilla Ryder and Conservation Commission to establish a Native Pollinator Garden at Ghiloni Park that will be approximately 30 ft long. • The snowshoe rental free program for Marlboro residents is going very well. Residents are allowed to schedule rentals on our website. • I spoke with Finance Director Patrick Jones regarding credit card payments. He Seemed very receptive to the idea but could be several months before system is in place. • Skyhawks Summer schedule is all set. Spring programs will be up on the website shortly. • We established a track program with a city resident, Colleen Marinelli, to offer kids grades 2-5 an opportunity to get some exercise while engaging with some fun activities. Program will run for 6 weeks at Ward Park.  • We Held a sledding day at Jericho, Sunday, Jan 30th, with free hot chocolate. Students at Clark University helped with the event and provided music from speakers on the deck. • We will be holding another Senior BBQ and Concert event at Memorial Beach on Thursday, June 9th. We also hosting our 1st Summer Concert later that evening with the band Late Bus. • We had a Snowman building contest with the winner receiving a free week of PSA. • Met with DPW Director to discuss new trash cart for the beach and additional fencing for Ghiloni Park/ Splash Pad to eliminate children from leaving the splash pad directly to the parking lot roadway.
