Pursuant to the notice duly filed with the City Clerk, a meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was
held at 5:30pm at the Recreation Office.
Present were Commission Members: Chairman Kays, Commissioner Vital, Commissioner Sampson,
Commissioner Gallagher, Commissioner Welch, and Commissioner Cabral.
Also attending Recreation Director Charles Thebado and Program Manager Joseph Mulvey.
Approval of minutes 4-12-23
On a motion duly made by Commissioner Gallagher and seconded by Commissioner Vital, it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the 4-12-23 minutes.
Parks Report: Mr. White is out on medical leave and not able to attend the Commission meeting.
Recreation Report - Charles Thebado, Director:
Mr. Thebado gave the following Recreation Department report:
• Family Fun Festival on Sunday went well.
• Head Lifeguard meeting is set for next week.
• Boat Ramp will open on Memorial Day weekend.
• Movie in the Park will take place on Friday, June 2nd ., at Kelleher Park.
• Splashpads will open on Tuesday, June 6th for the season.
• Senior BBQ will take place on Thursday, June 8th .
• Beach has a tentative date of opening on Monday, June 12 th.
• Wading Pools have a tentative date of opening on Friday June 24th
• City Council will vote on budget next week. Approval by the Mayor of additional $15,000 to temporary part
time help.

• Dek Hockey Rink opening within the next month.
There was a brief discussion regarding the rules for the Dek Hockey Rink. The Commission asked Mr.
Thebado to put together for the next Commission meeting his suggestions for the Dek Hockey guidelines
and rules.
OLD/NEW BUSINESS:
• There was a brief discussion to put concrete slab and shed for storage at Ward Park Pool.
On a motion duly made by Commissioner Vital and seconded by Commissioner Sampson, it was
unanimously:
VOTED: To approve and put concrete slab and shed for storage at Ward Park Pool.
• Stage to be built at Memorial Beach.
There was a brief discussion to build a stage at Memorial Beach.
On a motion duly made by Commissioner Vital and seconded by Commissioner Cabral, it was
unanimously:
VOTED: To approve and build a stage at Memorial Beach.
• There was a brief discussion to allow Sudbury Recreation usage of Memorial Beach from 10am-Noon
for 6 weeks to run their swim classes. The Commission stated they have no problem allowing Sudbury
Recreation using our beach from 10am to 12noon.
