January 2, 2013 An organizational meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was held on January 2, 2013, in Council Chambers, Municipal Building, beginning at 9:00 A. M., with Ashby Pritchett, Circuit Court Clerk, presiding. Council Members present included: Kim Adkins, Gene Teague, Mark C. Stroud, Sr., Danny Turner and Sharon Brooks Hodge. Pastor James C. Richardson of Mt. Sinai Apostle Church of Christ in God delivered the invocation and Mr. Pritchett led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Mr. Pritchett issued the oath of office to newly-elected Council Member Sharon Brooks Hodge and re-elected Council Members Mark Stroud and Danny Turner. Mr. Pritchett called for nominations for Mayor. Danny Turner nominated Kim Adkins for Mayor. Gene Teague made a motion and Sharon Brooks Hodge seconded motion to close the nominations. The following votes were taken for Mayor: Kim Adkins for Mayor: Adkins- aye, Teague-aye, Brooks-aye, Stroud-aye, and Turner-aye, 5-0. With a unanimous vote, Mr. Pritchett declared Kim Adkins as the new Mayor of the City of Martinsville and issued the oath of office to the new Mayor. Mr. Pritchett then turned the meeting over to Mayor Adkins who asked for nominations for Vice Mayor. Mark Stroud nominated Gene Teague for Vice Mayor and Danny Turner seconded that motion. A motion to close the nominations was made by Mark Stroud and seconded by Danny Turner. The following votes were taken for Vice Mayor: Gene Teague for Vice Mayor: Adkins-aye; Teague- aye; Stroud-aye; Turner-aye; and Brooks-aye, 5-0. Mayor Adkins announced the new Vice Mayor as Gene Teague and Mr. Pritchett issued the oath of office to Vice Mayor Gene Teague. Council members made brief remarks offering congratulations to Mayor and Vice Mayor. By consensus, Council agreed to the current meeting schedule of second and fourth Tuesday evenings at 7:30 P.M.
