POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MINUTES
February 27, 2025 at 5:30 PM
303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI
1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Police and Fire Commission meet on February 27, 2025, in the
Council Chambers of Mauston City Hall. Chair Brian McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:37
p.m. The members present were Jack Hammer, Katie Gruman, Brian McGuire, and Deborah
Shuman. Absent was Gary Purvis. Police Chief Mike Zilisch, Fire Chief Brent Lenorud, and City
Administrator Daron Haugh were also present.
2. Minutes: The motion was made by Gruman, seconded by McGuire to approve the minutes of
January 23, 2025 and February 13, 2025. Motion carried by voice vote.
3. Financial Report: Motion made by Hammer, seconded by Shuman to approve the Finanical
Report as presented. Motion carried by voice vote.
4. Fire Chief's Report:
a. The commission reviewed the calls for service in January 2025 and the Fire Chief
explained them. Chief Lenorud reported that the department hired one new firefighter, and
is reviewing an application for a second firefighter. He also gave an update on the work
that is being done on the fire station floor.
b. Chief Lenorud presented a request to increase the hourly pay rate for the Fire
Inspector. Motion made by Hammer, seconded by Gruman to increase the hourly pay rate
from $14/hour to $16/hour when doing fire inspections. Motion passed on a 4-0 roll call
vote.
Motion made by Gruman, seconded by Shuman to approve the Fire Chief’s
Report. Motion carried by voice vote.
5. Police Chief's Report: The commission reviewed the statistical reports for January 2025
and the Police Chief explained them. The total calls for service in January 2025 was 1687
while in January 2024, there were 1294 calls. Last month, there were 1353 calls. A statistic
worth noting is that there was a combined total of 24 deployments in January between the
two K9 units. Chief Zilisch also presented and reviewed the 2024 Annual Report to the
PFC.
Finally, there was a short ceremony for Officer Bailey and Chief Zilisch for their 20-year
and 20+ year careers, respectively, in law enforcement with the City of Mauston. Both
received a watch to commemorate the occasion. The PFC congratulates both individuals
and thanks both them and their families. Motion made by McGuire, seconded by Gruman
to approve the Police Chief’s report. Motion carried by voice vote.
6. Adjourn: Motion by McGuire, seconded by Gruman to adjourn. The motion carried by voice vote.
The meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
