POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MINUTES May 23, 2024 at 5:30 PM 303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call The Police and Fire Commission met at a special meeting on May 23, 2024, in the Council Chambers of Mauston City Hall. Chair McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:39 p.m. Members present were Jack Hammer, Brian McGuire, and Gary Purvis. Absent was Katie Gruman. Also present were Fire Chief Brent Lenorud, and Police Chief Mike Zilisch. 2. Minutes a. McGuire/Purvis to approve the Minutes of the 4/25/2024 meeting. Motion carried by voice vote. 3. Financial Report a. Purvis/Hammer to approve the Financial Report as presented. Motion carried by voice vote. 4. Fire Chief's Report a. The calls for service in April 2024 were reviewed and explained. Chief Lenorud reported that he is researching the purchase of a new tanker truck from Midwest Fire and hopes to have one delivered by January 2025. The new tanker would hold more water than the old one. McGuire/Purvis to approve the Fire Department report. Motion carried on a voice vote. 5. Hiring Brock Seifert as a firefighter- McGuire/Purvis to approve Brock Seifert as a firefighter. Motion carried on a voice vote.The PFC welcomes Mr. Seifert to the FD and thanks him for his willingness to serve. 6. Police Chief's Report- a. The April 2024 statistical reports were reviewed and explained. The total calls for service in April 2024 was 1294 while in April 2023, there were 1214. Last month, there were 1206 calls. Chief Zilisch reported that the Mauston PD has developed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Mauston EMS for the care and treatment of the Mauston and County K9s. He also explained that the City is partnering with Municipal Parking Services for two remote parking enforcement areas. Finally, he informed the PFC that the PD has purchased a Viken Scanner which can be used for drug interdiction and human trafficking, among other uses. Hammer/Purvis to approve the Police Chief’s report. Motion carried by voice vote. 7. McGuire/Hammer to adjourn – motion carried by voice vote – meeting adjourned at 6:04 p.m. NOTICE: It is possible that action will be taken on any of the items on the agenda and that the agenda may be discussed in any order. It is also possible that a quorum of other governmental bodies of the municipality may be in attendance at the above-stated meeting to gather information; no action will be taken by any governmental body at the above-stated meeting other than the governmental body specifically referred to above in this notice.
