POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES April 30, 2026 at 5:30 PM 303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Police and Fire Commission met on April 30, 2026, in the Council Chambers at Mauston City Hall. Chair Brian McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m. Members present were Katie Gruman, Jack Hammer, Brian McGuire, Gary Purvis, and Deborah Shuman. Also present were Fire Chief Lenorud, Police Chief Zilisch (left the meeting at 5:58 p.m.), and City Administrator Haugh. 2. Minutes: Motion by Gruman, seconded by Shuman, to approve the minutes from March 26, 2026. Motion carried by voice vote. 3. Financial Report: Motion by Hammer, seconded by Shuman, to approve the financial report as presented. Motion carried by voice vote. 4. Fire Chief's Report: The calls for service in March 2026 were reviewed. There were nine (9) calls in the City and four (4) calls in the rural area, totaling 13 calls for the month. There were also three (3) community events that the Fire Department participated in. Motion by McGuire, seconded by Purvis, to approve the March Fire Chief’s report. Motion carried by voice vote. 5. Police Chief's Report: The March Police statistical report was reviewed. The total calls for service in March 2026 were 1,800, while in March 2025, there were 1,713 calls. Last month, there were 1,544 calls. Motion by McGuire, seconded by Gruman, to approve the Police Chief’s report. Motion carried by voice vote. 6. Staff Report: Firefighter Banquet: Haugh presented an idea for the City to host an event to recognize milestone years of service. The PFC agreed to have Haugh plan the event. 7. Closed Session: Motion by Purvis, seconded by Hammer, to convene in closed session at 5:59 p.m. pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute § 19.85(1)(b), considering dismissal, demotion, licensing, or discipline of any public employee or person licensed by a board or commission, or the investigation of charges against public employees or licensed persons. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. a. Internal Staff Complaints within the Fire Department 8. Reconvene in Open Session: Motion by Hammer, seconded by McGuire, to reconvene in open session at 6:34 p.m. Motion carried by voice vote. 9. Result of Closed Session Matters: No action was taken during closed session and there was nothing to report. 10. Adjourn: Motion by Purvis, seconded by Shuman, to adjourn. Closed Session: Pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 19.85(1)(b) Considering dismissal, demotion, licensing or discipline of any public employee or person licensed by a board or commission or the investigation of charges against such person, or considering the grant or denial of tenure for a university faculty member, and the taking of formal action on any such matter; provided that the faculty member or other public employee or person licensed is given actual notice of any evidentiary hearing which may be held prior to final action being taken and of any meeting at which final action may be taken. The notice shall contain a statement that the person has the right to demand that the evidentiary hearing or meeting be held in open session. This paragraph and par. (f) do not apply to any such evidentiary hearing or meeting where the employee or person licensed requests that an open session be held. a. Internal Staff Complaints within the Fire Department 8.
