POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION MEETING
MINUTES
March 26, 2026 at 5:30 PM
303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI
1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Police and Fire Commission met on March 26, 2026, in the Council
Chambers at Mauston City Hall. Chair Brian McGuire called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m.
Members present were Katie Gruman, Jack Hammer, Brian McGuire, Gary Purvis, and Deborah
Shuman. Also present were Fire Chief Lenorud and Police Chief Zilisch.
2. Minutes: Motion by Purvis, seconded by Shuman, to approve the minutes from February 26, 2026.
Motion carried by voice vote.
3. Financial Report: Motion by Hammer, seconded by McGuire, to approve the February financial
report as presented. Motion carried by voice vote.
4. Fire Chief's Report: The February 2026 calls for service were reviewed, totaling eight (8) calls,
including three (3) in the City, four (4) in the rural area, one (1) MABAS call, and one (1) high
school escort. Chief Lenorud reported that newly hired firefighters will complete their Firefighter
class this coming Saturday and provided additional personnel updates. He also reported that the
new command truck is now in service and has been well received by the department. Motion by
McGuire, seconded by Gruman, to approve the Fire Chief’s Report. Motion carried by voice vote.
5. Police Chief's Report: The February 2026 statistical report was reviewed with 1,544 calls for
service compared to 1,359 in February 2025 and 1,691 the previous month. Chief Zilisch also
presented the 2025 Annual Report, noting a total of 20,715 calls compared to 16,054 in 2024. He
reported that over 70% of calls were officer-initiated, including traffic stops, ordinance enforcement,
and community policing activities. Traffic stops increased to approximately 5,000 in 2025 from
2,808 in 2024, with citations remaining steady and warnings increasing. Chief Zilisch reported that
Officer Waltemath has resigned to join another department. The Commission expressed
appreciation for his service and noted that the position has been posted.
6. Adjourn: Motion by McGuire, seconded by Shuman, to adjourn. Motion carried by voice vote.
