Bicycle / Pedestrian Advisory Committee

MENOMONIE BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE (BPAC) April 24, 2023 The Menomonie Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee met on April 24, 2023 at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers (800 Wilson Ave). Committee members in attendance included: Logan Mather, Mark Mastalir, and Mark Deyo-Svendsen. Also in attendance: Bob Colson, David Schofield, Megen Hines, John Wesolek, and Burton Barnard. Chairperson Mather opened the meeting. MOTION by Deyo-Svendsen, seconded by Mastalir, to approve the January 23, 2023 meeting minutes. MOTION passed. Colson reviewed the City’s recent bronze rating from the Bicycle Friendly Community Certification program. This is the third time the City has been ranked bronze and the ranking is valid for four years. Colson advised that the City may need to undertake some additional activities to maintain a bronze certification during the 2026 application process. Colson also advised that to attain a silver rating would be a significant investment of time and money. Discussion on the Bike Federation Summit was tabled until the next meeting that David Williams can attend. Under BPAC concerns, Schofield discussed the Stokke Trail design and resurfacing project. The City is working with Cedar Corp on this project and hope to have the project completed this fall. Schofield shared the updated City bike trail map with the committee. There was a discussion on the number of current signs and possible locations for additional signs. The Committee also brought up discussion of whether e-bikes would be allowed on City bike trails and thought that a possible ordinance may be needed. Colson advised that Dunn County has recently hired a new planner and that the Dunn County Bicycle Route Plan was last updated in 2019. Colson suggested that the Committee invite the new Dunn County planner to a future BPAC meeting. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned by the Chair at 6:51 pm.
