PROJECT UPDATES 1. Public Art Favorites Committee members shared examples of public artwork around the globe that they enjoy. This exercise helped set the tone for moving forward in a productive, effective way. Common themes included artwork that could be experienced in different ways, and pieces or places that created a memorable impact. They enjoyed pieces that were playful and fun as well as works that are educational and tell a story. The committee noted how Merriam Marketplace and the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail both offer excellent opportunities for placemaking in Merriam, especially by using organic art to compliment the landscape or infrastructure. They particularly enjoyed when the work was aesthetically pleasing, yet had a practical purpose, such as creating shade. 2. Other Business from the Floor Chair Shawn McConnell recommended the City create a short, 1-2 page document with highlights of the Public Art Master Plan that would be helpful for businesses or others interested in the plan. Commissioner S. McConnell made a motion to create a concise Public Art Master Plan highlight document. Committee Member Schoonover seconded and the motion was unanimously APPROVED. V. ADJOURNMENT 1.
