ADJOURNMENT MINUTES Public Art Committee Meeting City of Merriam, Kansas Merriam Visitors Bureau, 6304 E. Thursday, January 15, 2026 5:30 PM Frontage Road I. CALL TO ORDER Gerald Becker called the meeting to order at 5:33 PM II. ROLL CALL Committee Members Present: Staff Present: Jan Schoonover Dave Smothers, Assistant Director Parks and Jordan Gomez Recreation Gerald Becker Julie Denesha Vaness Chasm Jason Silvers Committee Members Absent: Shawn McConnell Staci Chivetta Christine Nelson III. ACTION ITEMS 1. Consider approval of the November 13, 2026 Public Art Committee minutes. Committee Member Gomez made a motion to approve the November 13, 2026 minutes. Committee Member Chasm seconded and the motion was unanimously APPROVED. IV. PROJECT UPDATES 1. City Hall Window Project Staff reported that no new update at this time. Project is tentatively set for installation Page 1 of 2 Public Art Committee Minutes – January 15, 2026 Spring 2026. 2. PAC Budget Staff presented a budget sheet that has expenses from 2023 to present. $91,645.96 spent and $368,354.04 balance currently. 3. Request for Qualifications - Streamway Trail Project Staff reported that the RFQ is in draft form and being reviewed by the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Assistant to the City Administrator. 4. Other Business from the floor Noblewins.com - Staff shared a website Nobilewins.com, that they take recycled wind turbines and repurpose them into beautiful benches that can be works of art. Discussion followed about possible uses and the idea of Merriam bus stops a project possibly with the City. Monument Sign - Staff shared an idea of a "Merriam" monument sign on I35. Discussion followed about the logistics and having to work with KDOT and what that process would look like. Not a committee priority at this time. The committee is still very interested in an art project in the Southpark area, and the committee would like to invite some residents of that neighborhood to brainstorm some ideas for a project. Smothers Retirement - Assistant Director Smothers announced that he will be retiring from the City of Merriam after 23 years of service and the February meeting will be his last meeting. Director Slocum will be taking over as City liaison. V. ADJOURNMENT Julie Denesha made a motion for Adjournment. Page 2 of 2
