Michigan Blvd. Michigan City, IN 46360 219-873-1570 * pdcornm@emichigancity.com Michigan City Police Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes: June 11, 2014 President Pliske called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. A quorum was noted with Commissioners John Pliske, Dennis Pickens and Michael Buda all in attendance. Also present was Chief Mark Swistek, Assistant Chief Tim Richardson, attorney Pamela Krause and, Councilman Pat Boy. Commissioner Buda made a motion to accept the minutes from both the special meeting held on May 14 and the regular meeting held May 14, 2014. Commissioner Pickens 2nd. Ayes 3 Nays 0; Motion Carries Old Business- Probationary Officer Nicholas Kobitka will return on July 14, 2014 and receive 6-8 weeks of officer training. He will be placed on the 2nd shift. The department is very pleased with him. Report from Chief Swistek- Chief Swisek gave letters to Officers Willie Henderson, Michael McLemore and Jason Cracknell for responding to a report of a weapon, Pursuing the vehicle and capturing five suspects on March 12. Officers Dylan Travis, Michael Oberle and Michael King received the commendations because of their search of the house of a person suspected of firing gunshots in the direction of other people on Emily St. Officer Michael King also received a Life Saving award for responding on April 11 to a report of trouble with a female prisoner in the Police Department’s cell block. Officers Willie Henderson and Dylan Travis could not attend the meeting. New Business-All the commissioners thanked the officers for a job well done. They also congratulated Anna Painter on her promotion. Chief Swistek and Assistant Chief Richardson stated they did talk to her on the phone that morning. Report from Assistant Police Chief- Assistant Police Chief Richardson stated that it was a slow start to the year, but now that the weather is getting warmer, things are getting more active. Report from Attorney- No Report Report from Councilman Pat Boy- Councilman Pat Boy thanked the officers for a job well done. Commissioner Pickens made a motion to adjourn, Commissioner Buda 2nd. Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
