Michigan Blvd. * Michigan City, IN 46360 * Telephone: (219) 873-1570 * Emergency: Dial 911 Michigan City Police Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes: October 14, 2015 Commissioner Pliske called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. A quorum was noted with Commissioners John Pliske and Mike Buda in attendance. Commissioner Dennis Pickens was excused. Also present was Police Chief Mark Swistek, Assistant Police Chief Royce Williams, Sgt. Chris Yagelski, and commissioner attorney Jennifer Koethe. Commissioner Buda made a motion to accept the minutes from the September 9, 2015 regular meeting and special meeting. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Pliske and carries as follows: AYES: Members Pliske and Buda (2). NAYS: None (0). Motion Carries. Probationary Officers Report- Sgt. Chris Yagelski stated that the 3 recruits in the academy were doing well and set to graduate on November 6. They have passed everything to date. Report from Chief Swistek- Chief Swistek stated that there would be a Pension Board meeting at 2:30 p.m. on October 15 to review the 4 applicants. The Exchange Club is having the Officer of the Year ceremony on October 20, 2015 at the Elks Club. Corporal Jeff Piotrowski will be receiving Officer of the Year. The MCPD had their annual United Way car wash and this year they combined forces with MCPD and MCAS. They raised over $6,000.00 and would like to thank John with Carlson’s, and Captain Ed. Chief Swistek is working on the 2016 schedule. He is looking to hire 5 new officers, 3 will be graduating in November so it will be a total of 8 probationary officers in 2016. Chief Swistek would like to report that there was a report of shots fired recently in the Eastport neighborhood and 10th Street and Maple Street. They have arrest the 3 young men responsible for this. Also, there was an incident at 10th Street and Maple Street recently with shots fired. They have arrested a 17 year old male. The department has new in car cameras, a total of 34. Report from Commission Attorney- Congratulated Corporal Jeff Piotrowski for receiving Officer of the year. New Business- None Commission Comment- Both Commissioners Pliske and Buda congratulated Corporal Jeff Piotrowski for receiving Officer of the Year. Commissioner Buda made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Pliske and carries as follows: AYES: Members Pliske and Buda (2). NAYS None (0). Motion Carries.
