Public Safety Commission FIRE DEPARTMENT August 26, 2024 **Hybrid Police Department – Community Room -----------Meeting Minutes---------- 1. CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Ford called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. 2. ATTENDANCE MEMBERS PRESENT: Commissioner Darnell Ford Commissioner Tony Gennaro Commissioner Linda Salafia Commission Kelly Sweeney MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioner Anthony Mangiafico STAFF PRESENT: Deputy Fire Chief Dave Albert Police Chief Erik Costa 3. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Commissioner Ford entertained a motion to approve the minutes from July 15, 2024, Commissioner Salafia seconded, and all voted to accept the minutes as presented. 4. PUBLIC HEARING 5. CORRESPONDENCE  None 6. MONTHLY REPORT  Deputy Chief Albert gave the monthly report: o 335 emergency calls – increase from last month o Fire Activity:  Two fires in South District  Dunham Avenue  Julia Terrace  Few mutual aid calls Page 1 of 3 o Events:  Attended all required monthly meetings  Renovation meeting held with Gordian Group  Meeting with Drager rep for training building  Final contract meeting  Services for retired Chief George Dunn  Meeting with Mayor and Finance – funding of training building  Active violence scenario meeting  Radio meeting  Smoke trailer at Lyman’s  Provided Engine and Car Seat Team to Head Start program  Engine company to Community Health Center  Engine to Macdonough School back to school event  Palmer Field - food truck festival  Market 32 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony  AME Zion back to school event o Training:  Dive training done  Marine training  Drone training  New four gas meters placed into service  Pump training - drafting and foam  Dive Team awareness class  ALS interface class by Middlesex Medic 7. OLD BUSINESS o Overtime  Fill OT has pickup up with summer vacations  One long term FMLA out until November  One (12) week FMLA o New Apparatus update:  New Engine 3 specs – should have final price in a few weeks  $1,000,000.00 – about 850 days to build  Truck 2 slated to return from repairs this week o HQ ARPA project update:  Gordian provided bid price of $450,000 o Feasibility study for Station 2 on hold until dispatch fate revealed o Training building:  Location (Newfield Street with third station)  Name  Trip to PA o Fire code ordinance – continuing to enforce o City wide EMS:  902 EMS calls with 0 mutual aid ambulance Public Safety Meeting – August 26, 2024 minutes Page 2 of 3 8. NEW BUSINESS o Joint Active Violence training in April with all three departments to be held o Updates will follow o ISO evaluation o Third fire station o Needed due to new developments in the area o Response times would increase o Fixes space issues, creates more storage, & room for members 9. Other Matters Not on the Agenda: 10. Public Hearing Reopened – Other Matters o 11. Monthly Summary of Action Taken by the Telecommunications Committee o Staffing is currently at 16 dispatchers with conditional offers pending o Activity for July was approximately 5,665 incidents, 2,387 9-1-1 calls, and 7,993 administrative calls 12.
