RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION May 16, 2019 MEETING 6:00 P.M. MINUTES RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION – In attendance: Ed Dypa, Sue Laribee, Winn Lee, Lincoln Everest, Salvatore Uccello, Matt Fraulino, Anthony Jaskot Absent: Mary Bartolotta, Phil Pessina, Akbar Coffy Staff: Cathy Lechowicz, Director AGENDA: Call Meeting to Order: Meeting called to order at 6:01pm. Approval of the Minutes: Sal Uccello made a motion to approve the minutes; seconded by Lincoln Everest. Unanimously approved. Public Hearing: No Comments. Department Reports: Building Updates Office is complete and library re-opened! Envelope specialist engaged, contract getting approved and should be starting soon. Program Updates Senior Expo was a success and we received many compliments. Adding new bus trips to diverse offerings – baseball, basketball, Oakdale, etc. Health and Safety Day is on Saturday 5/18/19. Gearing up for Summer Camp – new collaboration with the Board of Education. Assisting with Pride Parade and 4th of July Celebration. New website – working to make it user friendly and informative as possible. Budget – all lines, as of now, have held steady. Discussion ensued on impact of flat funding on our programs, specifically on the senior side. Keeping an eye on the minimum wage bill and the potential impact on our budget. OLD BUSINESS: Received approval to modify the commission name to Recreation and Senior Services and it should appear on the June Common Council meeting. NEW BUSINESS: Discussion on Veteran Policy for Department When we proposed the rink rates, a member of the Common Council inquired if we had a policy for Veteran’s. We currently do not. The department is recommending extending our programs that are free for Seniors to have that be free for Veterans. Specifically, this would include water fitness, lap swimming, circuit training, free family pass for the pool and the skating rink. Discuss ensued. Ed Dypa made a motion to adopt this policy, Tony Jaskot seconded. Unanimously approved. MISCELLANEOUS: ADJOURNMENT: Ed Dypa made a motion to adjourn; Sal Uccello seconded. All in favor.
