Resignation of Bob Collocola , Reassignment of members to new board positions
Eldar Shuminov expressed interest in joining Shade Tree Commission Board. He outlined previous
experience as secretary of a tree commission in previous residence. Mike Herzog agreed to step down as
secretary so Eldar could assume position pending Mayor and Village Board approval at April 13th
meeting. Mike Herzog agreed to fill rest of Bob Collacola’s term, until July 14, 2023. Eldar will fill
secretary position until July 14, 2022 after Mayor and Board approval at April 13th meeting. Kevin
McGrane will remain vice chairperson until his term expires in July 14, 2022. Motion made by Mike
Herzog to submit changes for Village Board approval at April 13th meeting. Kevin McGrane seconded.
Motion passed unanimously.
Arbor Day April 29, 2022.
Potential activities for Arbor Day were discussed. Resolution by Village Board to acknowledge April 29th
as Arbor Day in Millbrook was discussed. Suggestion made by Kevin McGrane to have tree planted at
Elm Drive as discussed at meeting on Sept. 10, 2021. Mike Herzog said he would contact Elm Drive
School principal Mike Setaro to get site approved by the principal and Millbrook School District Board.
He would contact Dennis Gendron, Twin Brooks Farm representative, to make potential arrangements
for planting on Arbor Day. Motion made by Mike Herzog to proceed as discussed. Seconded by Kevin
McGrane.
Future tree plantings.
There was a discussion of areas of the Village in need of more street tree plantings. Both Eldar Shuminov
and Kevin McGrane expressed Alden Place as good potential sites for plantings in the fall. Mike Herzog
agreed and pointed out that properties with trees that may need to be removed should also be given
priority. There may be potential plantings on Franklin Avenue due to sidewalk restoration assuming
grant funding application is approved by county for this year.
Potential Village Tree Survey.
Kevin McGrane brought up the fact that a tree survey would be helpful in assessing our current tree
canopy and diamond maps could be used to begin the process if trained volunteers and arborists were
willing to be involved. Kevin agreed to contact a person who had started that survey process in 2020 to
see if he had data to share. Motion was made by Mike Herzog to explore a tree survey funded by DEC
Urban Forestry Division if grant funding is available this year. Motion made by Mike Herzog to revisit this
topic at our next meeting tentatively scheduled for July.
Motion made by Mike Herzog to adjourn meeting. Seconded by Kevin McGrane. Motion passed
unanimously.
Respectfully submitted
