MINUTES CITY OF MINERAL POINT BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE MEETING Tuesday, April 29, 2025 – 5:30 PM City Hall Community Room CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Meeting called to order by Mayor Clark at 6:00 PM. Mike Christensen Present Cory Bennett Present Lauren Powers Present Others Present: Frank Beaman DISCUSSIONS RELATED TO THE CELEBRATION OF THE CITY OF MINERAL POINT’S BICENTENNIAL The Mineral Point archives has provided an inventory list of documents from the 100 th anniversary that we can use for reference. Committee recognizes that it is vital to include all facets of the community: Chamber, Historical Society, Pendarvis, churches, Shake Rag Alley, Odd Fellows, Lions, Masonic Temple, School, Railroad Museum, Veterans, etc. It will be necessary to create subcommittees to carry out all tasks. The committee floated the following ideas to celebrate: • Bicentennial logo (related to coin) • Commemorative Zinc Coin/Medallion (something to match the coin minted for the 100 th) • July 4th, 2027 is a Sunday. Lean into that event with fireworks being the finale of a weekend long event. • Frank Beaman has volunteered to publish and fund an anthology that will include narratives, stories, recipes, poems, art, etc. • Committee would love to see a temporary structure, possibly an archway, constructed over High St to commemorate the year. • Light show/hologram show to project on a few old buildings on High Street. Shows horse/buggie, period clothing, etc. to illustrate the multiple lifetimes these buildings have been through • Recruit musicians from around the state to create a giant municipal band; perhaps recruit the UW Marching Band for parade • Events planned throughout the year to highlight different facets of the community • 4th of July being the highlighted event of the year; we already do this well, and in 2027, it is on a Sunday. Fireworks can be the finale to a big celebratory weekend filled with family friendly events. Cory plans on applying for a GEM grant (WI Tourism) to help pay for event. ADJOURNMENT Motion (Christensen/Powers) to adjourn at 6:35 p.m. Motion carried, all voting aye (3-0).
