DISCUSSIONS RELATED TO THE CELEBRATION OF THE CITY OF MINERAL POINT’S
BICENTENNIAL
The Mineral Point Archives has provided an assortment of treasures from previous anniversaries of Mineral Point’s past.
Additional ideas:
• Inviting the Governor of Wisconsin to speak
• Facebook event & website? We’d like to see these organized by the Chamber, if possible
• Shullsburg & Platteville celebrating their 200th the same year
• Give an opportunity to representatives from groups around town to promote themselves and to collaborate with other
like groups. Ask for ideas for events throughout 2027. This committee to create master calendar or coordinate with
Chamber calendar. Groups include: Chamber, Cornish Society, Historical Society, Pendarvis, Gallery Night, AMP,
churches, Shake Rag Alley, Odd Fellows, Lions, Masonic Temple, School, Railroad Museum, Veterans, etc.
• Light show on December Gallery Night? Need someone to take lead; Mike and Cory to speak with Gallery Night
• High school theater dept will be encouraged to do a show on the bicentennial. At 150th, a play about early settlers,
Cousin Jack, Battle of Pecatonica (1832), Dodge takes office as Governor, William Caffee Hanging, 1848 gold rush,
LaCrosse & Milwaukee railroad scandal was performed at the Iowa County Fairgrounds, and this might be a wonderful
thing to revisit. A copy of the original script is on file in the MP Archives from 1977.
• Cory to issue a press release in partnership with Frank
• Mike to reach out to others who could build a temporary structure over High Street
• Anthology: Frank needs submissions from citizens to begin editing
• Lauren to reach out to Kristin Mitchell for possible design of 200 th logo; submissions to be approved by this committee
• Erect a permanent marker in town (Cornish Park?) to commemorate the 200 th anniversary
• Dick to look into ideas on how to decorate downtown for the 200th
Next meeting tentatively scheduled for Thursday, June 5 at 6:00 at City Hall.
