MINUTES CITY OF MINERAL POINT COMMERCE/SOUTH STREET STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING Thursday, January 23, 2025 – 9:00 AM City Hall Community Room CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Meeting called to order by Chair Burrows at 9:00 AM. Burrows Present Spady Present Cisler Present Henninger Present (9:16) Sielaff Present (9:02) Sorum Present Others Present: Matthew Honer, Mark Digman, Bart Nies Motion to approve minutes (Spady/Burrows) DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING THE RECONSTRUCTION OF COMMERCE AND SOUTH STREETS. Nies and Digman provided an overview of the project and the Committee to discuss major concerns or desires related to the project. The Commission discussed sidewalks and crosswalks. The Committee discussed if a continuous sidewalk along the west side of the street as appropriate. Spady asked about street lights being continuous from High Street to Old Darlington Rd. The Committee discussed the surface of the road being concrete or asphalt. Nies provided an engineering perspective of each. The Committee discussed closing some of South St. and making it more pedestrian-friendly, but it still being open for parking near commerce street and still allowing businesses and homes access. Nies stated that from the discussion his primary takeaways regarding the Committee’s concerns and desires related to the project included Pedestrian Friendly (parking), traffic calming, decorative lighting (removing overhead lines), construction schedule efficiency, and stormwater control. The Committee agreed. DISCUSSION OF MEETING CALENDAR AND TIMELINE Next meeting in March with the site plans.
