COMMITTEE ON ADDICTION August 10, 2017 Page 1 Committee Members Present: Mayor Barney, Paul Stroklund, Dennis Lindahl, Patti Eisenzimmer, Jason Olson, Stephan Podrygula, Chris Ray, Laurie Gotvaslee, Robert Barnard, Val Potter, Mark Vollmer, Steve Hall Members Absent Dr. Jeffrey Sather, Shannon Straight, Mark Schaefer, Lisa Clute Mayor Barney called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Update on state grant application Mayor Barney reported $180,000 has been awarded and plans to thank Dr. Jeffrey Sather and Lisa Clute at the next meeting since they were not in attendance. Bloomberg Philanthropies 2017 Mayors Challenge Chief Olson explained he emailed the committee with past winners of this grant and the replies he received indicated to go ahead and apply for the grant. Mayor Barney explained two grant writers have contacted the committee to volunteer their services and assist in writing grants. Paul Stroklund has been in contact with them and informed they are Megan Laudenschlager from Strengthen ND and Brittany Hogan from Minot Public Schools Foundation. Mayor Barney and Chief Olson will be meeting with Ms. Laudenschlager and Ms. Hogan to determine how much assistance they will need. The committee felt Chief Olson might be the best point of contact for this grant as he explained his name is already listed and does require a government official. After the meeting they will decide who the primary will be. Alderman Podrygula explained, there has been a good response, good assemble and good community response to this committee and plans it has. Mark Vollmer stated he is for applying for the grant and will support in any way he can but explained he feels the utmost important step should be to develop a plan. Work needs to be done to set up long-term care plans and the planning needs to begin now. Action Items Mayor Barney and Chief Olson will meet with grant writers and report at next meeting. Next Meeting: The committee set the date for the next meeting on August 24 at 6:30 pm. Other Business Paul Stroklund informed the Education/Outreach Committee will be meeting Tuesday, August 15 at 6:00 pm in the Auditorium. Laurie Gotvaslee asked Mayor Barney which committee he would like her to serve on and he informed COMMITTEE ON ADDICTION August 10, 2017 Page 2 the Treatment Committee. Patti Eisenzimmer informed the members of the Treatment Sub-Committee Mark Schaefer, Laurie Gotvaslee, and Dennis Lindahl feel Family Support falls under Treatment, the two committees can work together to solve the problems facing our community.
