Appoint Agency Negotiators for Conference with Real Property Negotiators Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.8; Property: 32 Cannery Row Agency Negotiators: John Mahoney, Kimberly Cole and Janna Aldrete; Negotiating Parties: Diane Colwell (Monterey Bay Boatworks Company); Under Negotiation: Rent Review (Not a Project Under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and Under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) (Plans & Public Works - 704-09) Action: Approved ***End of Consent Agenda*** City Council Minutes Wednesday, May 30, 2018 ***Adjourn to Closed Session*** Mayor Roberson opened the floor for public comments on the closed session agenda. David Crabbe, Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust, said he remembers a high percentage of commercial fishing vessels in Monterey back when he started fishing. He asked the City Council to encourage local fishing and the buying of local fish. Dean Owens, Lusamerica Foods, said that his company is interested in leasing space at Wharf II. He said they have local credentials, wide distribution on the West Coast, and want to bring the fishing distribution business back into Monterey. Alan Lovewell, Real Good Fish, shared his company’s mission and said they are very enthusiastic about the opportunity of leasing the space at Wharf II. He thanked City Council for their support to the Fisheries Trust and said there is no reason local people should be eating imported seafood. Barbara Meister, Monterey Bay Aquarium, said that there is a great success story around conservation, and now there is the opportunity and obligation to resolve the people and profit part of the sustainability challenge. Alan An, Anago USA, said that the hagfish eel presents an emerging industry with no seasons and no quotas. He expressed interest in a Wharf II leasing opportunity. With no further requests to speak, Mayor Roberson closed public comments.
