PUBLIC COMMENTS
PUBLIC COMMENTS allows you, the public, to speak for a maximum of three minutes on any
subject which is within the jurisdiction of the Monterey Colton Hall Museum and Cultural Arts
Commission and which is not on the agenda. Any person or group desiring to bring an item to the
attention of the Commission may do so during Public Comments or by addressing a letter of
explanation to: Library, Museum, and Cultural Arts Director, Monterey Public Library, 625 Pacific
Street, Monterey CA 93940. The appropriate staff person will contact the sender concerning the
details.
INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS

information that they may wish to discuss or take action by placing the item on a future agenda.
4. Museum and Cultural Arts Division Activity Report - November 1 - December 31, 2010 –
There was discussion on the differences of the yearly attendance figures for the Presidio
of Monterey Museum, the lack of directional signage and a suggestion was made for
reinstating the Lower Presidio Historic Park Subcommittee. A chart of attendance figures
for the museums including the Lab will be included in future staff reports.
A request was made to agendize for the March CHMCAC meeting a report of the Exterior
Interpretative Plan Meeting with stakeholders at the Pacific Biological Laboratories on
December 14 and 16.
PUBLIC APPEARANCE
PUBLIC APPEARANCE items are reports on action or informational issues that might stimulate
public discussion, but that do not require formal noticing as public hearings. You are welcome to
offer your comments after being recognized by the Chair. The Chair may limit the time allocated to
each speaker.
Old Business
5. Report from Strategic Planning Subcommittee to Commission – The subcommittee is
continuing to gather information on defining an area to conduct marketing and promotion
and what committees and commissions exist within the peninsula cities. They met with
Paul Fingerote, marketing and promotional manager of the Monterey Jazz Festival, who
had offered training for promoting arts in Monterey county so groups can come up with
collaborative partnerships to market the area.
The Commission expressed concerns that the Commission’s planning should not become
expansive during these times of austerity and there is not a formal strategic plan in place.
Bui-Burton suggested at February’s meeting that staff provide a report of the actions taken
after last year’s retreat and include the notes and templates so that the Commission can
discuss future action.
6. Approval of Recommendation from Subcommittee to Commission for Evening Music
Concert - Motion made by Greenwald to approve the musician groups “Trusting
Lucy” and “Reinecke Ensemble” for the 2011 Evening Music Concerts. Seconded
by Messenger. Motion carried.
Commissioners Greenwald, Messenger and Schneider will be on the Colton Hall Music
Ad-hoc committee and serve until December 2011.
