MUSEUMS AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES Thursday, August 3, 2023 6:00 PM JAPANESE AMERICAN CITIZENS LEAGUE HALL, 424 ADAMS STREET MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Commissioners present: Castagna, Evans, O’Neil, Sovereign Thomas Commissioner Absent: Wojtkowski Staff Present: Library & Museums Director, Assistant City Manager, Administrative Assistant, Artifacts Specialist CALL TO ORDER Chair Thomas called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. ROLL CALL Commissioner Wojtkowski was absent. STUDY SESSION 1. Receive Presentation from Page & Turnbull on Proposed Expanded Path of History Paths (Not a project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received presentation Chair Thomas shared the history of the Japanese American Citizens League Hall. Library & Museums Director Edwards welcomed attendees and provided an introduction to the Path of History. Page & Turnbull’s Associate Principal Christina Dikas provided an overview of the grant project and the two proposed paths that focus on the Pearl District and New Monterey. Public comment was received from Linda Yamane, Pam Tanous, John Sovereign, Rene Kimzey, Dennis Mar, and four additional attendees. CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL STUDY SESSION STUDY SESSION items are used to provide information to the Museums & Cultural Arts Commission and answer their questions to clarify issues. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission, committee members and the Commission regarding specific programs, projects or policies. The Commission does not take formal action on the items. 1.
