MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION Special Meeting Monday, June 4, 2012 4:00 PM COUNCIL CHAMBER, FEW MEMORIAL HALL OF RECORDS MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Commissioners Present: Baldwin, Canepa, Marotta, McCarthy, Menendez-Herbst Commissioners Absent: Perske, Woodward Staff Members Present: Sports Center Manager Jeff Vierra, Park Operations Manager Louie Marcuzzo, Recording Secretary Teresa Nash CALL TO ORDER PUBLIC COMMENTS None. PUBLIC APPEARANCE 1. Parks and Recreation Master Plan Conformity and Approval of the Proposed Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) Park and Recreation Related Projects for Fiscal Year 2012-13 Action: The Parks and Recreation Commission find that the slate of proposed parks/recreation related NIP projects for Fiscal Year 2012-13 conform to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and recommend approval to the City Council. Staff provided the list of the park and/or recreation related proposed NIP projects for Fiscal Year 2012-2013 and responded to questions. Commissioner Menendez-Herbst inquired if there were any new projects added since the Commission last reviewed the proposed NIP projects. Park Operations Manager Marcuzzo said no new projects have been added. Sharon Dwight, NIP Committee Representative, stated the purpose of this meeting is for the Parks and Recreation Commission to make a formal recommendation to City Council regarding the proposed park and/or recreation related NIP projects for Fiscal Year 2012-2013. On a motion by Commissioner McCarthy seconded by Commissioner Canepa, and carried by the following vote, the Parks and Recreation Commission find that the slate of proposed park and recreation related NIP projects conform to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and recommend approval to the City Council: AYES: 5 COMMISSIONERS: Baldwin, Canepa, Marotta, McCarthy, Menendez- Herbst NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None ABSENT: 2 COMMISISONERS: Perske, Woodward STAFF COMMENTS Sports Center Manager Vierra reminded the Commission that at tomorrow’s City Council meeting, the Monterey Sports Center will be receiving a 20th Anniversary Proclamation. He reported that on their anniversary day of June 1 the Sports Center was very busy and the Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes Monday, June 4, 2012 customers enjoyed the festivities. He said people were also very impressed with DVD on the Sports Center. Park Operations Manager Marcuzzo reminded the Commission of their tour of park facilities on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Canepa said he was down at Del Monte Beach over the weekend and there were a lot of people in the area and on the Wharf. He said on Sunday, every paddle boat was out on Lake El Estero, it was really nice to see. It’s a nice day in Monterey, visit a park! NEXT MEETING Thursday, June 21, 2012 at a Special Time of 5:00 p.m. for a Tour of Park Facilities  The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission is Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. for a tour of park facilities. The appropriate staff person will contact the sender concerning the details. You are welcome to offer your comments after being recognized by the Chair. The Chair may limit the time allocated to each speaker. 1.
