MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING CITY OF MONTEREY Wednesday, October 14, 2020 5:30 PM TELECONFERENCE MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Commissioners Present: Gibson, Gorman, McCarthy, McEwen, Panetta, Schmidt, Spangler Commissioners Absent: None Staff Members Present: Assistant City Manager, Parks and Recreation Director, Interim Recreation and Community Services Manager, Sports Center Manager, Park Operations Manager, Urban Forester, Recreation Coordinator, Administrative Assistant CALL TO ORDER Chair Gibson called the meeting to order at 5:32pm. ROLL CALL PRESENTATIONS 1 Presentation on the Status of the Parks and Recreation Department Operations for the Past Quarter (July-September 2020) (Not a project under CEQA Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Presentation given. CONSENT ITEMS Approval of Minutes 2 Wednesday, June 10, 2020 Action: Approved as submitted (7-0-0). ***End of Consent Agenda*** PUBLIC COMMENTS None. INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS Parks and Recreation Director Larson thanked staff and the commissioners for their ongoing support. Interim Recreation and Community Services Manager Leon and Sports Center Manager Willer both extended their thanks to staff. Park Operations Manager Marcuzzo stated the fuel reduction work that has been done has never looked this good. Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes 10/14/2020 5:30:00 PM COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Spangler stated she is proud to be a part of this commission and this community. She extended her thanks to staff and is thankful for the fuel reduction efforts that were done in her neighborhood. Commissioner McCarthy expressed his thanks to staff and is impressed with how staff is maintaining their drive to keep moving forward. Commissioners Gorman, Schmidt and McEwen all extended their thanks to staff. Commissioner Gibson asked Assistant City Manager Rojanasathira to please let City Council know how hard Parks and Recreation Staff is working during these unprecedented times. NEXT MEETING Monday, November 9, 2020. ADJOURNMENT Chair Gibson adjourned the meeting at 6:52pm. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS COMMISSIONERS may ask a question for clarification, make a brief announcement or make a brief report on his or her activities. In addition, a Commissioner may provide a referral to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to the body at a subsequent meeting concerning any City matter, or direct staff to place a request to agendize a matter of business on a future agenda.
