Meeting Minutes of the Montpelier Conservation Commission
May 10, 2012
Attendees: Chris Hilke, Geoff Beyer, Bill Finnegan, Kris Hammer, Roy Schiff

Thanks to Bill for his service to the Commission over the past several years. We will miss his valuable
contributions.
Update on VHCB funding by Kris Hammer
o VHCB has historically funded AmeriCorps position for Parks Department and new constraints
on AmeriCorps funding may preclude future funding.
o Geoff to talk with VHCB about funding.
o MCC to consider assisting with management if Parks would like us to consider.
o MCC supports half of VISTA position and plans to continue.
April Minutes approved with minor edits.
Zoning amendments
o Plan to learn about and review CVRPC TROD next meeting.
o Should invite Jens Hilke and VNRC (Jamie) to another meeting to seek assistance through
Staying Connected and Critical Paths
o Possible initial meeting before next MCC meeting?
Consider drafting letter to Gwen about bank vegetation and armoring at Shaws and new building next
to Coop. Chris to research vegetation setback. Roy to draft letter and take photos.
o We have tree sources.
o Recover at cost of landowners?
o Ultimately MCC should have reviewed as in Master Plan.
Roy to email announcement for Northern Vermont Conservation Commission meeting in Craftsbury.
Geoff and Chris to possibly attend.
Seeking new members
o Geoff to hang flyers.
o Contact Matt McLean to see about another student representative.
o Shawn White interested and she will likely attend next meeting.

Staying Connected/The Nature Conservancy may be helpful to work on resource
protection).
8:00 pm Residential stormwater workshop on May 17th from 6:30 to 8:30 at Edmar’s at 231 Elm
Street. MCC role?
8:15 pm Streambank development at Shaws and Connor building. Recommend follow-up
plantings? Can we improve coordination with PC, DRB, and City Council to review such
projects?
8:30 pm Website update.
8:45 pm Other announcements and review assignments
MCC to possibly take on administrative role for VISTA position?
City Hall on May 16th to talk about all the infill possibilities, and to ask people from the
different neighborhoods to identify lots in their area that might be good infill sites.
