Minutes June 8 MCC Montpelier Conservation Commission – June 8th, 2017 Minutes James Brady, John Jose, Brenna Toman, Nick Giannetti, Page Guertin, Emily Byrne, Charlie Hohn, Becca Harris (Americorps), Geoff Beyer (Parks) • Agenda approved as written • James updated the group on the City Plan and Official Map, Official Map (James to resend to Geoff) • Emily update on the Farmers Market – Becca to ask Audra about details and how to loop in other commissions (Planning, Parks, etc.) There could be a rotating table with multiple groups. • Becca updated us on the city website o Overview of what is possible and how we can use this tool. Access to be given to MCC members who would like to help maintain our portion of the City’s website. • Social media update – o Priorities – Facebook (Twitter can be linked) – Everybody should have access o Blog – (alternative website) (more fun website) o Semiannual FPF reminder about meetings and big events o Brenna will help to spearhead the social media working group • Stormwater Updates o Nick – Update on meeting with the City on the final Stormwater Master Plan ! City is short staffed, short on funds ! Tom McCardle excited to see MCC at the group • Wants us to help with outreach o Including private properties ! Interested in the snow storage area ! Nick to meet with Curt on Monday to talk about next steps ! Shawn White from Friends of the Winooski wants to come in to talk ! Can we get grants for rain barrels for city of Montpelier? o James quick update on Waste Water Treatment Plant o James quick update on the Transportation Alternatives grant o Charlie – sedimentation in wetland on NL property ! Getting worse ! May not be called out in the City’s Stormwater Master Plan ! Next steps? • John Jose – Union Elementary School playground o Plans to have two rain gardens o Short on funding o Only one bid, project on hold o Can we give money toward the school’s rain garden ! James to follow up on • Page on the AVCC grants o Group to go through the list of grant programs and what strategic plan priority • John Jose – fencing around vernal pool update • Geoff – community member for the Conservation Fund (This item was not on the original agenda and will have to be taken up again at a future meeting.) o We need more details o Geoff to talk with city council o John Jose made motion “Motion to nominate Brenna to represent the conservation fund committee for the city of Montpelier” o MCC voted in favor to elect Brenna • Emily volunteered to run a meeting if needed • Jose motion to adjourn, seconded by Page, all in favor
