• St. Paul Street Stewards Project (Lynn)
o Acknowledgement & introduction of guests.
• Update on Spring Planting
o John S reports he and Lynn mulched all trees; also a Shad was planted on First Ave, two
Norther Cedars and a Tamarac were planted along the bike path near the RR bridge and a
second Plum was planted on Stonecutters Way near Allen Lumber
• Update on NCCC work (Geoff & Emily)
• Discussion about invasives on bike path (John A, Geoff)
• Nursery Update (Jeff & Geoff)
• Arts Grant Application (Lynn, Cassandra, Emily)
• Signs for Downtown Trees (Emily)
• Budget Update
o From John S.: City indicates we have $1072 remaining for budget year ending June 30th;
we need to budget for replacing two downtown trees, which typically cost $300-500 each.
• Urban Forestry Grant (Geoff & Emily)
• Planting two replacement trees downtown (after sidewalk completion) (Geoff )
• Update on Donation of Tree to VCfA
o John S. has worked with them and we will plan to plant and dedicate a Freeman Maple in
the first half of June.
• Berlin Street – Possible Orchard
o John S to send update by email if it arrives by Thursday.
• Update on structural soil project:
o From John S: All work has been completed by DPW and a contractor will be replacing
sidewalks in July. Trees will need to be watered. John S added water gaiters to trees.
• Tree City USA
o John S reports that a proclamation was read on Arbor Day at the new Honey Locust tree
behind Bear Pond Books)
• Follow-up to Meredith’s report on beavers and brush on Stonecutters Way (
o John S investigated, found both. He fenced remaining trees against beavers and reports the
two brush piles appear to be illicit dumping and will require chainsaw and truck to remove
New Business
• Asiana House Deck Update
o John S: I met with the contractor prior to work and discussed caring for trees; have also
visited twice since start and all looks good Nursery Needs
• Watering Downtown Trees (Abby, Ellen)
• Union Elementary School
o John S was again approached about the possibility of planting trees as part of this project;
no firm details at this point but he indicated our continued support.
• Inventory of Grates and Guards
o Need a volunteer to do this. John S. has list of what is needed.
• Possible Website and/or Facebook Page (Cassandra)
• July 3rd Parade & Potential Prize
