MSAC Annual Meeting June 23, 2015, 12:50 pm Minutes Welcome and Call to Order: Chair: Tina Muncy at 12:50 pm Present: Many more than the required quorum of 35 members! A. Previous Annual Meeting Minutes Read and Approved. (1. Barbara Smith, 2. Bill Doelger) B. Honoring those Board Members who will be retiring from the Board: (Susan Torchia) 1. Jane Osgatharp, fulfilling 6 years on the Board Thanks also to all of our Instructors, FEAST partners, Board, and Staff, Lise Markus and Dan Groberg and our volunteers! C. Jessica Sanderson (FEAST representative) D. Report from Jo Ann Triano, Chair of the 58 Barre St. Condominium Association. The housing has been a great success! It was created after the fire and opened on July 1, 2012 in collaboration with the City of Montpelier. The Condos have recently been granted LEED accreditation! E. FEAST Report from Jessica Sanderson, Program Manager Provides no or low-cost meals to the community, at home and together. This summer they will staff a new “Free food for Kids” program, with the help of Rotary Intl and other community connections. We have a “Young Chef who performs miracles!”, Justin Turcotte. The program has provided 31,000 meals this year, using fresh, local vegetables and working with lots of volunteers. F. Proposed: “Friends of the MSAC” by Bill Doelger Bill spoke of the need for an on-going endowment fund, such as the fund which provided the means to repair and renovate our current building after the fire. G. By-Law Amendment: Proposed to change name of the MSAC “advisory board” to “Advisory Council”, as we are not truly a “Board of Directors”, but a council which advises, Moved: 1. Sue Stukey, 2. Jane Osgatharp. Passed H. Report from MSAC Director of Programs and Development, Dan Groberg: MSAC is a unique and exciting place! We have 846 members from 28 different towns…1/5 of all seniors in Montpelier are members. We are part of a network of support for seniors and are aided by our volunteers who provide over 5,000 hours of time each year. Fundraising is critical to our continuing success as all of our classes are subsidized by these gifts. In 2017 we’ll celebrate our 50th Anniversary! I. Report from MSAC Director, Janna Clar Looking Back: we had many successful programs and fund raising events over this past year. The Jackman bequest was a total surprise, and we are working with the city investment fund to create an appropriate way to manage it. Support from nearby Towns is up, as we continue to investigate more off-site programs. We welcome your suggestions. Priorities for 2015-2016 include: a. Helping to make Montpelier a “dementia friendly city” through our Memory Café and the Puppet Program this fall. b. Cultivating donors to keep our programs strong.  c. Increase awareness of alternate transportation options to the Center, the bus stops here 9 times a day! d. Integrating MSAC with other city recreation departments e. Improving our Facility: Sound proofing, AV system, etc. f. Improving our Swimming Programs and making them more financially feasible. They are currently highly subsidized. g. Partnering with other organizations: Recreation, OSHER, Statewide Senior Centers. h. Gaining Credit Card Capability! J. Report from Jesse Baker regarding the City’s thoughts on combining Departments a. City council has voted that the Recreation Association and MSAC will coordinate under the city auspices, rather than the School System. b. Long Term Goal: Efficiencies in service gained… perhaps also consolidating Parks and the Cemetary Association by 2017. K. Questions/Comments 1. More classes for working folks 2. More for the old/old members 3. Member benefits with local stores, Montpelier Alive? 4. Need ideas for off-site programs for Supporting Towns. 5. Senior Housing Centers Association “S.A.S.H.” (?) L.
