Parks Commission Meeting Agenda: August 15, 2017
Attending: Carolyn Grodinsky, Bill Johnson, Fab Pattison, Sarah Swenson, Geoff Beyer
Carolyn called meeting to order, Bill seconded
Agenda amendments:
Add under caretaker updates, clarify Park Shelter reservation fees
Bill motioned, Fab seconded
June meeting minutes:
Bill moved to approve, Fab seconded
Assignment of a chairperson:
Bill nominates Sarah, Carolyn seconded – Sarah chair
Updates from current working committees:
Greenprint/zoning, Canine Task Force, Budget Working Taskforce, Program Development Task Force
Assign lead person for each committee, and each to develop a purpose statement for the September
Parks meeting
Greenprint/zoning: Carolyn to take the lead
o Work to get Greenprint adopted by City, and to identify trails,
o Write action plan/work plan of where we need to go with the Greenprint
● Incorporate Greenprint into Master Plan
● Get Park lands/Conservation Fund committee set up again
Canine Task Force: Sarah to take the lead with Fab as a resource
Budget Working Task Force: Bill to take the lead
Program Development Task Force: Fab/Alec
· Enchanted Forest (ask attendees for their zip code so we can have data on where people are
coming from)
Develop a three year plan for Parks Committee (short term and long term)
· Convene a visioning meeting away from Parks regular meeting – Sarah to research dates for a
special meeting in October
· What is the vision for the Parks
· What is the mission
· Where should its resources go towards
· What are the community needs, how it can be enjoyed and compatible with multiple interests
Dog Task Force Update:
· Fab: looked at dogs in the park
o Dog Committee came up with recommendations and will continue to refine
Danis Regal requested clearer signs where bikes are permitted and the need for runners to alert dog
owners that they are running by
· Bill move to adopt language along this line, Fab seconded “With the reduced areas that dogs
can be off leash and to keep other opportunities, Parks Committee suggests the City investigate a
dog park to alleviate some of the dog pressures in Hubbard Park, and that the Park be located
outside of Hubbard Park”
Parks Commissioners to wordsmith the language above and pass at next meeting
Caretaker Updates:
· Howlfest: brought in $500, better to have a more focused period of time that would be more
successful (1 day or afternoon instead of the whole weekend)
· Geoff game an update on the current volunteers
Dog Park:
· Geoff suggests a dog park, but all suggested it not be in the Park or associated with the Park.
Start with one park, if goes well, built a second one

Parks recommendation about dog ordinance (dogs in Park)
· Let Parks Commission evaluate how beefed up education of Parks Canine Code of Conduct are
being promoted and promoting online reports of incidents
