Montpelier Parks Commission Meeting Minutes Tuesday November 14, 2017, 7:00pm Police Station Conference Room In attendance: Commission members: Sarah Swenson, Fabienne Pattison, Bill Johnson, Carolyn Grodinsky Staff: Alec Ellsworth Guest: Mike Miller, Director of Planning Meeting called to order – motion by Carolyn, Bill seconded, all in favor Bill made the motion to approve the November agenda as is, Fab seconded, all in favor Comments from the public – no public in attendance The commission invited the Planning Department Director, Mike Miller, to discuss how best to integrate Parks Planning with City planning, specifically the master plan. General strategies for Park planning, open space, the conservation committee and grants were discussed. The DRAFT official map was reviewed as it is an important planning tool. He said if a Parks grant application is already a part of the Master Plan, it’s easier to get a grant. Updates from Task Forces: Budget: (Bill):  Putting together a draft one page Park’s Document for Geoff to use in budget discussions (what the Parks Commission supports)  Bill will send draft for Commissioners and parks staff to review before sending to Bill Frazier in November.  Keep wood boiler in budget  Any individual item under $5,000 will be moved into the operating budget. 2019 - willing to support $20,000 for a truck Multi Use Trails Task Force Update: (Alec)  The city trails working group has contracted with Sinuosity Trails to develop a potential trails map to bring to the Parks Commission. The Committee will invite them to come to the next Parks meeting to review the plan. K9 Task Force (Sarah/Fab)  Incidents continue to be reported to the Commissioners and Police Chief  Sarah, Fab and Alec will meet to discuss signage, community outreach and other strategies and bring them back to the Commission in January Caretaker Updates  Recent clean-up work with fallen trees from the last storm  Discussed parks volunteer workers  Signage and maps plan for the next few months Carolyn made a motion to adjourn, Bill seconded, all in favor Meeting adjourned at 9:00
