Meeting Minutes
June 7, 2012
In attendance: Abby Colihan, Carole Naquin, John Snell, John Van Deren Wendy
Blakeman and Geoff Beyer (Tree Warden) and Bob Trocher (volunteer)
• Minutes for the May meeting were approved.
• Workdays were set for June 9, 14, 23 to do maintenance on downtown trees. Geoff
proposed a system for delivering compost in buckets and using them to carry away
any removed dirt. John will get the word out to the volunteers and get tools ready
for the work days. John and Sarah will lead the workdays.
• Plans were discussed for getting the nursery ready for both summer watering and
fall planting. John S and John V will visit the nursery in July to measure up the parts
needed to refurbish a simple 3-row watering system. John S indicated he has had the
pump refurbished and it is ready to go. He also found the fire hose in the shed at the
nursery.
We also agreed to have a workday in July to re-inventory what can be planted out in
the fall and to consolidate and get ready 3 rows for possible fall planting. John S and
Geoff will consult with Sarah and Wendy on what to plant and where to order it.
Some planting may need to be done in the spring as well.
• John S noted that the Red Oak at Main and School had been replaced under
warranty by TreeWorks.
• John S has ordered a moisture meter (Aubuchon’s) that can be used to check the
watering needs of trees downtown. Bill deVos (TreeWorks) felt the tree (above) had
not been watered adequately.
• Geoff updated the Board on the grant to plant “streetscape trees” and is proposing
to plant some he has purchased as well as using some from the nursery. John and
Geoff are in communication with folks on Barre Street about a plan to plant many
trees there over the next several years. Details to follow.
• John requested all update their hours on the spreadsheet. He said this information
is important to use when writing grants.
Meeting adjourned at 6:40. Next meeting is July 5 at Memorial Room, City Hall.
