City of Morgantown Health and Wellness Commission Meeting Minutes for August 2, 2018 Present: Colleen Harshbarger, Chair Dan Shook, Vice Chair Christine Wallace Ryan Wallace David Loomis Patrick Hathaway Meeting called to order by Colleen Harshbarger, Chair, at 7:00 PM. The agenda was distributed. Colleen Harshbarger solicited Members for comments on other agenda items or clarifications regarding the all-day work session August 10. Potential other topics are the adoption of Commission By-laws (inclusive of attendance requirement), additional Blue Zone Project discussion and its integration with the Commission’s mission Pubic Session: Kelly Allen and Ted Boettner, Executive Director of the West Virginia Center for Budget and Policy was in attendance and gave a presentation regarding paid sick leave. He provided evidence regarding the impact paid sick leave would have on local economy. Mr. Boettner encouraged the Commission to address the paid sick leave issue as potential policy. Morgantown would be the first city in West Virginia to enact such a policy. Public comments of support for a sick paid leave policy were Mark Brazitis, Danielle Walker, ♀ (did not catch her name), Andy Cockburn??, Kelly Allen, April ??, and Dr. Lee Smith. Minutes: NA Communications: David Loomis initiated discussion regarding options for accessing Commission documents through a shared drive. David will contact City of Morgantown’s Communication Director, Andrew Stacy, to determine if a shared drive could be created on the City’s web page for login Commission Members. 1 Priority Items: A reminder to all Members that Friday, August 10th the Health and Wellness Commission will meet for an all-day work session from 8:30 am -4:40 pm 5:30 pm at the West Virginia Botanic Garden-1061 Tyrone Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508. Ms. Teri Cutright will facilitate the planning session. Progress Reports: The latest version of the CULTURE OF HEALTH ACTION FRAMEWORK was distributed. The framework was not discussed, but will be addressed during the all-day planning session. 2 New Business: NA Announcements The next meeting is scheduled for August 10th 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
