February 9th, 2023 Minutes Health and wellness commission 1. CALL TO ORDER: - Kim calls the meeting to order at 7:05 - Present: Kimberly Kelly, Sabina Nduaguaba, Ronalie Abeyratne 2. APPROVE MINUTES: January 12, 2023 minutes - Moved by Ixya vega seconded by Alexandra, 3. REPORT ON CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSIONS - Disappointment on Morgantown city council not making more of a statement about campus carry - BOPARC approved bonds for the skating rink 4. COMMITTEE MEMBER REPORTS ON CURRENT EVENTS 5. FOLLOW-UP ITEMS: A.Elections Kim nominated Alexandria as chair and was seconded by Susan Ixya Nominates Jennie Smith-Peers seconded by Susan Kim nominated Sabina as secretary seconded by Susan Kim appointed Ronalie as Social media chair seconded by Jennie B. Substance Abuse/Misuse (smoking, opioids) - A desire to do some work with the AARP money and use it to help out with the climbing gym that’s closing - Making sure that we keep communications open with our attorney to make sure that the money is trickled down well C. Events - - D. Policy from the state legislature E. Physical Activity F. Mental Health G. Food Insecurity H. Grants - We may want to apply for the AARP Community Challenge Grant Program and use it to bring information to the city - Jennie suggests more collaboration with other folks in the city and creating a bigger event to bring information to the city about issues like mental health. Mainstreet Morgantown is already going to be a part of the grant and maybe we can partner with them as HWC 6. NEW BUSINESS: 7. PUBLIC PORTION: A.
