MORGANTOWN HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION September 18, 2019 The meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm in the Public Safety building by Shannon Tinnell. Those present were Shannon Tinnell, Bill Kawecki, Jeanne Grimm, Jessica Eichlin, Kathy Hanko. The minutes of the August meeting were approved. NEW BUSINESS: None OLD BUSINESS: Section 106 designation is complete on a cell tower at 493 North High St. MHLC brochures are in progress. Site maps and layout are being created by the Morgantown City Planner. Progress is being made on the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park at the riverfront. There is work being done at the bottom of Walnut St too. The Facebook page is being maintained by Jessica Eichlin. The historic plaques for Oak Grove Cemetery and Indian Park are pending at the State Archives and History Commission. A survey of the Marilla section of town is planned for 2020. The WVU History Department will help with student participation. The Annual Report was submitted to SHPO. Jeanne will attend the Monongalia County Historical Society meeting on September 20 with Paula McClain, president of the Monongalia Co Landmark Commission. There will be time to discuss further collaboration. Jeanne has talked with Mike Giolis regarding a multisite designation for stone walls. It should cost approximately $18,000. It will need some research to identify of multiple designations to justify a new one. WVU students will be able to participate in this. There are certificates of appreciation available in the Aull Center files. There was discussion regarding finding historic glimpses to be put on plaques in the downtown area. Meeting was adjourned.
