Notes on Meeting via Zoom
May 26, 2022
5:00 p.m.
1. The meeting was called to order at 5:05 pm.
2. In attendance were commissioners George Lies and Liz Finklea.
3. The Minutes of the April 21st meeting were considered and will be approved at the
next meeting when a quorum is present.
4. Xuzhou: George reported that he had received a follow up to the invitation for
the first Jiangsu High-level Forum for Belt and Road Friendship Cities
Cooperation that will take place in Nanjing, China on June 30, 2022. He had
discussed the idea of a video presentation with Mayor Selin but nothing had
been decided yet.
5. Update on visit by Colombian musicians: George suggested that we
arrange a meeting with Jose Ramirez when he gets to Morgantown and work
on a schedule for the musicians’ visit. He will talk to Jose and see if a meeting
can be set up for Jun 15.
6. Guanajuato: Nothing new to report.
7. Promotional Gifts: George suggested we research the cost of good quality,
zippered tote bags to be used as gifts for visitors. Liz will search online for
options and George will contact the Office of Global Affairs at WVU to see if
they have any suggestions. He would like to order these as soon as possible
to use some of the money already allocated in the budget. Liz suggested that
we meet with the City’s Finance Department to see the best method of
purchasing and paying for such items.
8. Recruitment efforts: George and Liz attended a First Ward neighborhood
meeting with Councilor Joe Abu-Ghannam on April 25 and will attend a
meeting of the Neighborhood Associations Council on June 13th.
9. MSCC Ordinance: Since Ixya was not present, there was nothing to report.
10. The meeting adjourned at 5:44 pm.
