Woodburn Community Complex Commission
Unofficial Minutes of Thursday May 26, 2022
Members present: John Trumble, Marti Shamberger, Ron Dulaney, and City Councilor Danielle Trumble.
Guest Vincent Kitch.
The meeting was called to order by John Trumble at 6:06 p.m. via ZOOM. The minutes from April 7 were
not approved due to lack of a quorum.
Mural Project: Vincent Kitch, the City of Morgantown Director of Arts and Cultural Development gave
an update on the WV Commission of the Arts, rural youth engagement grant which included $5k from the
WV Commission of Arts with a match of $5K from the City of Morgantown. Artist Nicole Westfall of
Charleston, has been chosen to design the mural at Woodburn Complex. A preliminary focus group
meeting will be held with the kids, and neighborhood around July 18-20 for a theme. Mid-August work
will begin on the mural.
Building updates: The Assistant City Manager is waiting on a report from Engineering to address the site
site prep for the drainage at the pavilion shelter on the playground. Other uses of the building suggested
were a Covid/ Wellness clinic with the Health Department, Mountain State Justice office space, possible
BOPARC camps.
Signage Committee: There was no update.
Playground update: The equipment for the playground has been purchased and a bid is out for
installation. No sharps have been found on the property.
Strategic goals: The group thought it would be helpful to come up with strategic goals for the
commission based on our vision and mission statement.
Other: Two vacancies still exist on the commission beginning January 1, 2022. Members were
encourage to find people to apply.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
The next schedule meeting is June 23, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom.
