Tree Board minutes 10/28/19 Morgantown Tree Board (MTB) Minutes, meeting of October 28, 2019 City Council chambers, later moved to City Attorney conference room, 4:38 PM 1. ATTENDANCE: MTB members Dan Brown, Greg Dahle, Dave Davis, Secretary Jon Weems, Chair Dave Barnett, and City Arborist Scott Cline. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: D. Barnett observed that a quorum was lacking, so no motions could be voted upon. 3. REPORT FROM S. CLINE: S. Cline reported recent work with tree plotter, in addition to plantings in Greenmont, at Jack Roberts Park, and near the Northside Fire Station. He also discussed the removal of seriously decayed and hazardous silver maples in South Park. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. Arbor Day 2019 Review. Six trees were planted on Morgantown’s Arbor Day and the days that followed by MTB members and G. Dahle’s class. All looked good. Discussion revolved around the desirability of planning farther ahead of time to allow more participation by neighborhood associations. B. City Tree Ordinance. Details of incorporating penalty language from the State College, PA ordinance was discussed. D. Barnett agreed to draft this and send it to MTB members for feedback. C. White Park Update – Greenspace Coalition Proposal. It was noted that the City and MUB were discussing possible resolution of the controversy over water line routing. It was mentioned that MUB appeared to be preparing to run the line along Mississippi St., which would require a pumping station, should such a route be necessary. 5. NEW BUSINESS: None. 6. OPEN DISCUSSION: D. Davis said the cherry trees started by rooted cuttings from the Roh trees were dropping leaves and appeared healthy. He mentioned possibly storing them in a cooler for part of the coming winter. J. Weems noted the good work done by Mary Wimmer and others at the Star City riverfront park, which, while outside MTB’s purview, was an improvement for the greater Morgantown area. 7. NEXT MEETING: November 25, 2019. 8. ADJOURN: With no quorum, the meeting broke up without a motion at 5:41. Respectfully submitted, ______________________ Jon Weems, Secretary
