Tree Board minutes 11/28/22 Morgantown Tree Board (MTB) Minutes, meeting of November 28, 2022 Public Safety Building conference room, 4:38 PM. 1. ATTENDANCE: MTB members Dan Brown, Donna Marie Foster, Chelsea Hilty, Secretary Jon Weems, and Chair Dave Barnett. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: D. Brown moved, and D. Barnett seconded, that the minutes of the Oct. 24 meeting be approved as amended. The motion carried unanimously. 3. REPORT FROM D. BARNETT IN LIEU OF URBAN LANDSCAPE DIRECTOR: D. Barnett explained that Urban Landscape Director Marchetta Maupin was unavailable, and City Arborist Scott Cline was resigning and moving to Ohio. He said the Tree City USA application was complete except for some city tree work records expected shortly. He noted recent additions to the ESRI tree database, accessible to MTB members for viewing but not editing. He said M. Maupin was scheduled to meet with contract arborist David Mitchell to discuss pruning the next day. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. White Park update. Coming replacement of a sewer line on the “back side” was confirmed, but it was believed planting etc. on the Mississippi St. side could proceed at any time. B. Caperton Trail Invasive Species Removal. Work was anticipated in early 2023. 5. NEW BUSINESS: A. Goals for 2023. Members were reminded of the need to keep realistic goals in mind so they might be achieved in 2023. B. WVU Tree Campus USA Update. D. Brown reported a meeting was scheduled for early December. He said WVU had hired an ISA-certified arborist, Josh Pritts, with duties that had expanded beyond tree matters. 6. OPEN DISCUSSION: Morgantown’s “Approved street tree and shrub list” was distributed and reviewed. Some changes were clearly needed, but it was agreed further review, perhaps including an email discussion, was needed. 7. NEXT MEETING: 4:30 PM, Monday, January 23, location to be determined. 8.
