Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission
Minutes of Thursday April 26, 2018
Members present: Chris Haddox, Marti Shamberger, Ron Delaney, Bob Merrow, Carol Wilson,
Kate Levine.
The meeting was called to order by Chris Haddox at 6:00 p.m. at Crosley’s and the group
proceed up to the Woodburn School building where the meeting was called to order at 6:20 p.m.
Members introduced themselves.
Chris distributed copies of the bylaws, and gave a summary of the building history beginning
with the City purchase to date. Points regarding accessibility, water intrusion, and maintenance
were discussed.
Dennie Poluga, Director of the Boys and Girls Club stopped in and expressed concern about the
number of bathrooms not working in the building.
A discussion was held in the past about the possibilities to establish a “Friends of Woodburn”
group to help with fundraising. Chris was also hopeful to meet with the city’s new Grant writer
to see about funding for the elevator.
The parking lots on the top and bottom of the property on Charles Ave are scheduled to be paved
this year. After that is done new trees will also be planted.
The Commission went on the tour of the building, with Chris pointing out the possible sites for
an elevator or lift, the repointing of the parapet, and the water intrusion areas along the roofs of
the fire escapes.
The building assessment done by the Mills Group will be sent out to everyone prior to the next
meeting,
Chris and Ron plan to meet with the City Manager before our next meeting with the concerns
discussed and soliciting help from the Grants Writer.
The next meeting will be May 24@ 6:00 p.m. at the school.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
