MOSES LAKE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT COMMISSION
A regular meeting of the Moses Lake Airport Commission was held at the Airport Operations
Building, Friday, noon, 13, April, 2018.
Commissioners Present: Darel Fuller, Chairman; Dean Hankins and Tom Dent.
Visitors: Delone Krueger
Minutes: Minutes from the meeting held March 9, 2018 were approved.
Airport Inspection: The April inspection was done by Darel Fuller. He reported that one toilet
tank needs repair and some of the Tetrahedron lights are out. A copy of the inspection report is
attached. Darel will do the May inspection.
Old Business:
A. WSDOT Camera Status: A new camera was installed by Public Works employees. At first
didn’t work, packing was found in the camera and once that was removed it worked. As
of April 12, 2018 it was working. However, today, April 13, 2018 it was not working.
Darel thinks it is okay and should be working before long. It may be a problem in
Olympia. He gets a number of emails from people when the camera doesn’t work. Darel
is not sure if the airport will be billed by the City of Moses Lake for the help in installing
the new camera.
B. Lawn: Darel felt they should use the Job Corp to put in the irrigation at the Airport
Operations Building as they would only have to pay for materials. Dean Hankins will
contact Mayor Liebrecht to see what she has found out about using them. Darel would
like to use “gopher gasers” to eliminate the gopher problem. Both Dean and Tom felt
they worked well. Darel questioned whether they could just purchase them or if they
needed to talk to Mike Moro before buying them. It was decided that they should talk
to Mike first.
C. Update on Operations Manual: Darel proposed that they wait until a decision is made as
to whether there will be an airport commission or just an advisory board before
updating the manual. Dean went over the possible changes with Tom. This will be
Dean’s last meeting as part of the commission as he will be sworn in as a Moses Lake
City Councilmember at their next meeting.
D. West Side Fencing Status: On hold, no grants available at this time. Darel said there was
an area on the canal that needs to be filled. He has some fill material. There was
discussion about using the correct fill material and doing it properly.
New Business:
A. Taxiway Repair – FEMA Grant: Darel reported that Fred Snoderly said the FEMA grant
was approved. The grant is for $65,000. The FEMA grant will pay 85 percent of the costs
of the repairs and the Airport would pay 15 percent.
B. Weed Spraying: Darel and Tim have done weed spraying. Tom explained to Dean that
most of the work done at the Airport is done by volunteers and paid for by the
volunteers. Dean will talk to John Williams about volunteer work.
C. Windsock: The windsock is worn. Darel thinks they may have another one. He will check
to see if they have a new one.
D. Ops. Facility Use Request: The Experimental Aircraft Assoc. (EEA) has submitted an
application to use the building. The application is attached. There are several groups
who are regular users and others who rent it for parties. The cost is $25 for half a day
and $50 for a full day.
E. Other: There was discussion on the insurance requirements on airport leases.
The volunteer timesheets will be delivered to Jynnifer Tarver, Administrative Secretary, by
Darel Fuller.
