CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Tuesday, September 29, 2020 4:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 MINUTES Members Present: Bren Romano Monteiro, Chair; Brad Dunnells, Ann McGahey, Frank Sonntag, Kathryn Whitaker Members Absent: Corey Alston Staff Present: Nicole Harvey Ms. Monteiro called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. 1. Approval of Minutes from the September 9, 2020 meeting Ms. McGahey made a motion to approve the September 9, 2020 minutes. Mr. Sonntag seconded the motion. All were in favor. 2. Public Comments None 3. Report from Subcommittees a. Town Hall Art Ms. Harvey said there was no update on this. b. Sculpture Ms. McGahey said they went to the College of Charleston and they put together the selections to choose from. Ms. Harvey said they chose the Quartz Prism and Centered. c. Art on the Half Shell  Culture, Arts & Pride September 29, 2020 Page 2 of 3 Ms. Harvey said had been working with Public Services in getting the mural up on Fire Station 7. She said the oysters would be placed next. She said they were going to be ordering more oysters soon and would be selecting new art for them in the coming months. d. Marketing Ms. Harvey said the Facebook numbers are up to 593 since the last update and Instagram had 321 followers. She said the Charleston Opera Theatre added all the Town pages including the Culture, Arts & Pride Commission (CAP) as a co-host. She said that they were working with Levelwing on developing the interactive art map. e. Performing Arts Ms. Harvey said the Charleston Opera Theatre will have an Opera on the Waterfront performance on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. She said she had not yet reached out to Holy City Arts & Lyric Opera (HALO) but was excited to discuss possible future events with them. Ms. Harvey said they were working with the Woolfe Street Theatre on a John Denver and Linda Ronstadt tribute on the lawn outside of Council Chambers at Town Hall on October 18. Ms. Monteiro suggested putting something out for people to contact CAP for possible performances while maintaining social distancing at various outdoor areas. 4. Arts & Humanities Awards Ms. Monteiro said they were sent an email about this. She read some of the suggestions. The Committee discussed their choices and agreed on one. Ms. Monteiro made a motion to select Ms. Marie-Louise Moreto as the Arts & Humanities Award recipient. Ms. McGahey seconded the motion. All were in favor. 5.
