minutes. Mr. Sonntag seconded the motion. All were in favor.
2. Public Comments
None
3. Report from Subcommittees
a. Town Hall Art
Ms. Harvey shared new submissions of three artistic quilts and
three paintings. She said she wanted to get guidance from
the Commission until they resume the Mayor’s Art Receptions.
She asked if they wanted her to continue sharing the submissions
with them or should staff switch them out and hang them as
they get them.
Mr. Sonntag made a motion to accept the six submissions
shown and incorporate them into what is already hanging. Mr.
Alston seconded the motion.
Ms. Monteiro said she thought the motion should be expanded
to accept anything that was submitted unless there was an issue
and then staff could reach out to the Commission.

c. Art on the Half Shell

and with the call for submissions they would probably be choosing
some in January.

Ms. McGahey said they met virtually and came up with a
revised plan that she thought was going well so far.
Ms. Harvey said they sent out a press release for the Arts and
Humanities Award.

Ronstadt on the Town Hall lawn and how well it was received.

Mr. Alston asked how the Culture, Arts & Pride Commission (CAP)
works with unincorporated parts of Mount Pleasant such as the
communities that are not officially in the Town.
Mr. Gergick said he thought the CAP work would be primarily
intended for things within the Mount Pleasant area from the
Mount Pleasant tax base. He said if there was a proposal that came up,
he would not mind sending it up the chain of command.
Mr. Alston said he was a large part of the community and he would
like to bring more emphasis to the unincorporated black areas of Mount
Pleasant.
The Commission discussed roundabout technical issues, having
paintings in crosswalks near the schools, and the partnership projects
with Lucy Beckham High School and other schools. There was also
discussion about another subcommittee to research projects for the
unincorporated areas of Mount Pleasant.
Ms. Whitaker said the Youth Council chose to do a Cultural Fair and
would like the Commission to help. She said it was to celebrate all
the different cultures represented in Mount Pleasant through food, art
and education.
Ms. Harvey said the Economic Development Committee wants to do
an art contest for a sustainability initiative to have the winning art printed
on reusable bags. She said they would like CAP to help facilitate the
process and said this was all in the planning stages.
The Commission discussed printing, sponsors and placement of the
reusable bags. They also discussed the budget aspect of this.
The Commission discussed the Charleston Visitor’s Bureau (CVB)
wanting to have more of a cultural aspect for tourists and discussed
possibly mimicking that for the Town.
There was discussion about the Historical Commission map,
the Town’s Public Art Map, and the Mount Pleasant Way.
a. Chairperson
