a. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Project
Mr. Alston said they met the previous day with Ms. Liz Boyles
(Planning) and Mr. James Aton (Transportation) to finalize the next
steps on the basket stands. He said they discussed the eight stands
across from Carrabba’s on Highway 17. He said they do not want to
tear down and rebuild the stands because there are some property
owners that are possibly selling their land. He said they also did not
want to leave them alone because they would look unkept, so they
decided as a group to move forward on a major renovation to the

eight stands. He said they need to have a day of contracting, and a
separate day for priming and painting.
Ms. Harvey said they want to make the stands look as good as
they can. She said the Town does offer incentives to rebuild when
someone buys the parcel of land. She said they need to recruit
some knowledgeable construction people.
The Commission discussed having some dates to make the
stands be functional and then another to beautify them. They
discussed reaching out to any contractor friends or contacts. The
Commission agreed to assess the stands and tentatively set June 25
as the constructing day and July 16 for finalizing day.
b. Student Art
Ms. Harvey said she spoke with Ms. Anna Dassing at Lucy
Beckham High School. She said they discussed the oysters. She
said she would like for the subcommittee to put together a process
or guidelines on how that student art project might work. She said
they had all agreed to start with Lucy Beckham High School and
wanted to move forward with projects such as the storm drain art
and pole banners.
c. Art on the Half Shell
Ms. Harvey said they had not formalized what to put on the
plaque area of the oysters. She shared examples of plaques with
some different options.
The Commission discussed the options and agreed on the laser
engraved plaque of $65.

name plate option for the Art on the Half Shell project. Ms. Thomas
seconded the motion. All were in favor.
