Present: Ann McGahey, Corey Alston, Kathryn Whitaker, Brad
Dunnells, Bren Monteiro
Absent: Courtney Sarre, Nicole Thomas
Staff Present: Nicole Harvey, Danielle Fraser, Tracy Richter
Called to order at 12:06pm
1. Approval of Minutes from the November 30, 2022 meeting
Ms. McGahey motions; Mr. Alston seconds; Vote is Unanimous

3. Report from Subcommittees
Sweetgrass Basket Stand Project
Mr. Alston gives an update on a specific stand.
Mr. Alston mentions a new date for first of the year to work
on stands. There is discussion regarding dates and February 4th is
decided for a friends and family workday. Mr. Alston and Ms.
Harvey discuss what is left to do on the stands.
a. Student Art
Ms. Harvey mentions that she is working on a meeting to
discuss options with teachers. Ms. McGahey asks to be included.

b. Traffic Box Art
Ms. Fraser gives an update on the traffic box art in regard to
artists who have applied. Ms. Harvey mentions that the next meeting
will include choosing art, there will be an updated budget, and status
of boxes that were damaged.
Ms. Whitaker and Ms. Harvey mention circulating submissions
to the Commissioners to review the art ahead of time.
Mr. Alston inquiries as to having the artists physically paint the
boxes versus having them wrapped. Ms. Harvey explains the art lasts
longer, safety concerns, and the wraps are cleaner. There is
discussion about the options.
Ms. Harvey reminds Commissioners she will be sending out a
budget update and other information before the next meeting.
c. Town Hall Art
Ms. Monteiro said the event was a lovely way to end the year.
Ms. Harvey says attendance was low due to several factors.
Ms. Whitaker asks when new art will be picked for the next
reception. Ms. Harvey said the next reception is in April.
d. Marketing
Ms. Harvey says she will email out the 2023 event dates so the
Commissioners can plan to attend.
Ms. Monteiro says they need to consider what events the
Commission should have a table for presence. Ms. Harvey lists
several events that make sense for the Commission to attend.
Ms. Whitaker asks Mr. Dunnells if there is anything that should
be revisited. Mr. Dunnells mentions the ArtFest.
Ms. Harvey suggests a Performing Arts subcommittee meeting
via teams to include Ms. Richter. There is discussion regarding
ArtFest.
Mr. Alston inquires about events that bring families out monthly
such as “Arts in the Park”, etc. Ms. Harvey explains that’s a multi-
departmental discussion. Ms. Richter explains other evening events
and cost.

Ms. Whitaker agrees that adding to existing events would be easiest to
offer more variety. Ms. Whitaker mentions some existing events.
Mr. Alston wants to come up with a way to enhance businesses
and revenues and mentions a food truck idea. Ms. Monteiro says there
is an established food truck rotation in town at local businesses.
Ms. Harvey mentions the Town Hall lawn concerts that may appeal to
the older demographic. Ms. Harvey says the food trucks did great.
Mr. Alston asks about using the Town Hall venue and do events on bigger
holidays. Ms. Monteiro said she has had several people talk about Hispanic
Heritage month event.
Ms. Harvey says the conversation should move to the sub-committee
4. New Business
a. Commission Applications
Ms. Kathryn is willing to call those who do not show up to
ask them if they are going to continue serving on the Commission.
Ms. Harvey says that Ms. Monteiro is staying on the
Commission. Ms. Monteiro talks about sitting on the Commission.
Ms. Harvey gives update on how the process works with
vacancies and those staying for reappointment. There is brief
conversation regarding applicants.
Ms. Monteiro mentions there are non-active subcommittees
that need to be addressed.
Mr. Alston wants to discuss doing something new along Hwy.
17 to celebrate the sweetgrass basket stand renovations and basket
makers. There is discussion regarding options.
