TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION Wednesday, December 7, 2022, 1:00pm Committee Meeting Room 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Ken Ayoub, Greer Hanlon, Perry Rourk, Keely Enright, Renken Carlin Absent: Kevin Keollegger, Frederick Rodewoldt, April Gift, Trip Cuttino, John Dodds, Michelle Cormack Staff: Steve Gergick I. Call to Order Mr. Rourk called to order at 1:04pm II. Approval of November 22, 2022 Minutes No quorum present to approve minutes III. Public Comment John Iacofano of 388 Overseer Place as a citizen congratulates the Commission on the referendum passing. Daniel Brownstein of 1391 Downsberry Drive thanks the Commission for educating the public about the referendum. Mr. Brownstein mentions that the environmental aspect of the referendum was a concern to voters. Mr. Brownstein wants to mention increasing customer service within the town departments. Mr. Ayoub extends his thanks to Mr. Brownstein for the hard work that Mr. Brownstein put into the referendum. Mr. Ayoub agrees that the concerns of the public need to be addressed. IV. Discussion and possible action regarding membership fees for non-residents at the Senior Center and for other Recreation Department programs Mr. Ayoub mentions that he was approached by Thomasena Stokes-Marshall about allowing non-residents of Mount Pleasant being able to use the Senior Center at a resident rate. Mr. Ayoub asks Mr. Gergick for an update on the discussion with CCSD. Mr. Gergick gives an update on discussion with Charleston County for funds to cover allowing non-resident to use the Mount Pleasant recreation facilities at the resident rate. There is discussion regarding clarification on what areas will be considered for the non- resident rate and specifics on who will be able to participate. V. Update on Recreation Referendum Mr. Rourk gives an update on what was discussed at the Finance Committee meeting. Mr. Gergick reiterates the process through Council and bid solicitation. Mr. Rourk clarifies that the wording in the Referendum states a timeline of 15 years and mentions the bond process. Mr. Rourk mentions that projects like Waterfront Park, that may be coming in over budget may have to do with outdated quotes. VI. Discussion and possible action regarding Recreation Capital Improvement Projects updates on the Recreation webpage Mr. Rourk said the Commissioners found that residents do not seem to know what the Recreation department projects currently are. Mr. Rourk asks for it to be considered to add links to the capital improvement projects on the recreation website. Ms. Enright agrees that there should be more information on the website regarding schedules and field usage. Mr. Rourk explains further about informing the public. Mr. Ayoub asks about including a monthly report provided by the recreation department on the website. Mr. Gergick explains the current report created is vague and does not include information on projects and schedules. Mr. Gergick explains the types of projects and that capital projects are shown on the webpage, but maintenance projects are not. There is discussion about what to include on the website and why it would be beneficial to include maintenance projects on the town webpage. VII. Discussion regarding dates/times for the 2023 RAC meetings Mr. Gergick reviews the proposed meeting dates. VIII.
