CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, November 30, 2022 12:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Corey Alston, Bren Monteiro, Brad Dunnells, Ann McGahey Absent: Nicole Thomas, Kathryn Whitaker, Courtney Sarre Staff: Danielle Fraser, Tracy Richter, Nicole Harvey (on phone) Called to order at 12:09pm 1. Approval of Minutes from the November 2, 2022, meeting Ms. Monteiro motions and Mr. Alston seconds. All approve. 2. Public Comments 3. Report from Subcommittees a. Town Hall Art: Ms. Monteiro and Ms. Fraser introduces the topic, the number of submissions, and how they can by hung throughout the building. There is discussion about the rods in which each piece is hung from the wall. Ms. Harvey suggests selecting two pieces from each artist to begin and if there is room after selections then the Commission can reconsider the ones originally eliminated. Ms. Monteiro and Ms. Richter explain how the rods work and how the art is hung from the rods. Ms. Monteiro suggests the process to preliminarily review the art. Mr. Dunnells asks if there are any strong objections to any pieces. No objections were found other than one piece that was too large. There is discussion regarding how to select pieces. Ms. Fraser goes back through the art and the Commissioners make selections with discussion. b. Marketing Ms. Monteiro briefly mentions that there are fliers for everyone to hand out for the holiday events. c. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Project Ms. Monteiro mentions volunteers and needing to keep momentum. Mr. Alston suggests having CAP Commissioners helping with the stands. Ms. Harvey reminds the Commission painting is weather dependent and possibly the Commissioners can find a nice weekend to arrange a painting day for a small group. Ms. McGahey mentions the Clemson Architecture Center and Horticulture offices in Charleston may be interested in getting involved. There is brief discussion regarding contacting them. Mr. Alston clarifies the next meeting is January 4th. Ms. McGahey mentions that the Commission needs to come up with a blurb for the MC to say at the parade for the CAP float. There is discussion about the float. 4. New Business Ms. Richter reminds the Commission about the Mayor's Reception on the 15th of December. Ms. Richter tells the Commission about the lawn concert being held at Town Hall on December 18th. 5.
