TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION Tuesday, November 22, 2022, 1:00pm Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: John Dodds, Ken Ayoub, Keely Enright, Kevin Kollegger, Perry Rourk, April Gift, Michelle Cormack, Frederick Rodewoldt, Greer Hanlon Absent: Tripp Cuttino, Renken Carlin Staff Present: Steve Gergick I. Call to Order Called to order at 1:02 pm II. Approval of Minutes Approval of November 1, 2022 minutes Mr. Kollegger moves; Ms. Cormack seconds; Unanimous Approval of October 12, 2022 minutes Mr. Ayoub moves; Mr. Kollegger seconds; Unanimous III. Public Comment IV. Discussion regarding projects listed on the Recreation Referendum Mr. Gergick gives an update on Recreation Referendum with reference to slides. Mr. Rourk and Mr. Gergick discuss different facilities and locations and the plans for those.  Ms. Gift asks for a timeline on projects and their priorities. Mr. Gergick explains the design process will be after the second reading. Ms. Gift inquires about the bid process. Mr. Gergick explains the processes. Ms. Gift offers assistance through USTA SC free services. Mr. Gergick mentions the athletic business conference contacts that he met in regard to design firms. Mr. Ayoub mentions the concerns some of the opposition of the referendum has in terms of green spaces, habitats, concrete, etc. Mr. Ayoub encourages the Recreation department to reach out to address the concerns in order to bring the community back together. Mr. Kollegger mentions developing or utilizing current public channels to gather public input for the projects. Mr. Gergick explains that there will be updates pushed out to the public and the Recreation Advisory Commission is the channel for public input. Mr. Dodds inquires about a weekly update on the website. Mr. Rourk suggests that once the referendum is through the 2nd reading there can potentially be a way to push information out. Mr. Ayoub suggests public input meetings with the design firm. Me. Ayoub encourages the public to come through the commission. Mr. Gergick mentions holding public input sessions early in the process. Mr. Rourk encourages the Commissioners to go to the finance meeting and council meetings to represent the RAC. V. Update on current Recreation Department Capital Improvement Projects Mr. Gergick offers a slide show on the current projects happening in the Recreation Department.  Mr. Hanlon asks about the possibility of a court for in-line hockey. Mr. Gergick responds that there may be possibilities it could be incorporated into another court/field. Mr. Ayoub mentions noticing CCSD playgrounds are not able to be used by the public. Mr. Gergick replies that it is currently being discussed with CCSD in the modifying and updating of the 2006 agreement currently in place. Mr. Rodewoldt mentions afterschool services are utilizing some of the properties until later in the evening. Mr. Rourk inquires if there is any idea of when the Cario baseball field will have a groundbreaking. Mr. Gergick said there is no timeline as of now. Mr. Hanlon asks if there are plans to turf Patriots Point soccer fields. Mr. Gergick said no. Ms. Gift asks when the tennis courts are being resurfaced to keep in mind that spring is the busiest season. Mr. Gergick says the funding for this is in the FY23 budget. Ms. Gift asks if there is discussion about CCSD building more tennis courts. Mr. Rodewoldt asks about the 3rd field in Center Street plan to renovate. Mr. Gergick said it will be complete once the drainage project is complete. Mr. Gergick says the Speights/Reid Field has no plans. Mr. Rourk asks the status regarding appointing the next member for the RAC. Mr. Gergick explains there are 3 applicants and the applications stay open through November 30 at which point they will be reviewed by Committee and a recommendation will be made. Mr. Kollegger asks the Commission about a reset for the Commission to figure out the next step and reset the focus.  VI. Adjourn Adjourn at 1:50pm.
